Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very roomy for a small SUV | Not as much fun as a Ford Puma |
| Good value for money | There's no fuel-sipping hybrid model |
| Comfortable to travel in and appealing to drive | Lacks the sliding rear seats of some rivals |
Quick Summary
The Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) is a compact crossover that excels in practicality, offering more interior space than most rivals despite its small footprint. It provides ample room for adults in the back and a generous 400-litre boot, making it a highly serviceable family car. While it competes strongly with the Ford Puma and VW T-Cross, it lacks the sliding rear seats found in some alternatives and has a surprisingly low driving position for an SUV.
The engine range is headlined by efficient TSI petrol units, with the 114bhp 1.0-litre version being a popular choice, though a 1.6-litre TDI diesel offers the best fuel economy. The Kamiq is comfortable over long distances, with a well-finished cabin and affordable running costs thanks to low insurance groups and impressive real-world MPG. Although there is no hybrid option, its overall package of value, reliability, and space makes it a top contender in its class.
Best for: Families and buyers seeking a practical, spacious, and comfortable small SUV with low running costs and a high-quality interior.
Not ideal for: Drivers who prioritise a fun driving experience, want a high SUV driving position, or are looking for a hybrid powertrain.

The Verdict
You should buy the Kamiq if: You need a practical, spacious, and comfortable small SUV for your family, and you value low running costs and a quality feel.
Consider alternatives if: A thrilling drive is your top priority, you must have a high driving position, or you're set on buying a hybrid.
Competitive Position: The Skoda Kamiq stands at the top of the small SUV class, challenging rivals like the Ford Puma and VW T-Cross. While the Puma offers a more engaging drive, the Kamiq wins on interior space, practicality, and perceived quality. Its combination of comfort, efficiency, and value for money makes it an exceptionally well-rounded and sensible choice for new and used car buyers.
