Skoda Karoq (2017-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very roomy and practical | Some issues with 1.5 petrol engine |
| Comfortable on the road | Slightly anonymous styling |
| Plenty of standard equipment | Some rivals are nicer to drive |
Quick Summary
The Skoda Karoq, launched in 2017, is a practical and comfortable SUV positioned between the Kamiq and Kodiaq. It offers a raised driving position and has received updates in 2022 and 2024, enhancing its design, standard equipment, and trim levels. The Karoq boasts excellent interior space with generous headroom and legroom for all passengers, making it a very good family car. Boot space is impressive at 521 litres, or 588 litres with the optional Varioflex seating system, which allows for individual sliding, folding, or removal of rear seats to expand luggage capacity up to 1,810 litres.
While prioritising refinement and comfort over agility, the Karoq is a decent car to drive, particularly 4x4 versions which benefit from more sophisticated multi-link rear suspension. It offers a range of efficient petrol and diesel engines, including a 114bhp 1.0-litre TSI and a 148bhp 1.5 TSI, alongside a 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel. All models come with comprehensive safety equipment and a connected infotainment system, with higher trims adding larger screens and advanced driver aids. Running costs are reasonable, and Skoda's "Simply Clever" features add to its user-friendly appeal.
Best for: Families needing space and practicality, buyers prioritising comfort and refinement, those looking for good value and standard equipment in an SUV.
Not ideal for: Drivers seeking sporty handling and agility, those who dislike anonymous styling, or buyers needing hybrid/PHEV options.

5 Overall rating
(7 reviews)Quality interior, good drive, nice gearbox, smooth engine and quiet.
Very similar to my Yeti. 4x4 Great comfort front and back. Good luggage space. Reliable engineering. Excellent level of trim .
I think this car is good value, I loved the low mileage. The features are amazing such as letting you know what gear you can change to depending how quick or slow you are driving. Love the gadgets in the boot such as handles for hanging your takeaways on, little borders in the boot to create a column in your car to stop things from sliding around or to stand a pot of paint up right. There are loads of clever features. The interior is lovely, just perfect for me. I wasnt interested in any other models.
I am really enjoying owning and driving the Skoda Karoq 1.5 TSI SE. Good value and the one I bought had a very good (as in low) mileage. I would have liked a rear camera but the parking pilot sensors do a good enough job helping with reversing safely. Great value and I couldnt stop smiling whilst driving it across to the other side of the country to visit family the day after I had bought it! Impressed with CarGurus too!
Lovely car. Lot’s of useful features. Enjoyable ride.
