Skoda Kodiaq (2017-2024) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Very roomy and practical	Entry-level engines are a bit overwhelmed
Great balance of comfort and handling	Slightly bland to look at
Impressive cabin quality	Ride in Sportline versions not as polished

Quick Summary

The Skoda Kodiaq (2017-2024) is an exceptionally practical seven-seater SUV that delivers impressive space, comfort, and quality. With five seats, it offers a cavernous 835-litre boot expanding to 2,065 litres with seats folded. The seven-seat version provides 270 litres with all seats upright, reducing to 2,005 litres when folded flat. The cabin impresses with solid build quality matching other Volkswagen Group vehicles, featuring a commanding driving position and generous headroom and legroom throughout. Composed handling and a comfortable ride make it equally suited to school runs and long motorway journeys.

Engine options range from the entry-level 1.4 TSI petrol and 2.0 TDI diesel—which struggle slightly with the car's size—to more capable 1.5 TSI, 2.0 TSI, and 2.0 TDI variants. The performance-focused vRS offers 237bhp diesel or 242bhp petrol engines for those seeking more excitement. Diesel models achieve mid-40s mpg with front-wheel drive, whilst petrol engines return 30-40mpg depending on specification. Insurance groups start from 17, with the vRS at group 30. The Kodiaq's reputation for reliability, combined with its spacious, well-crafted interior and efficient engines, makes it an excellent choice for families and used car buyers alike.

Best for: Families needing space and practicality, those prioritising comfort and build quality, and buyers seeking a reliable seven-seater SUV with excellent value.

Not ideal for: Those seeking a thrilling driving experience, buyers wanting a distinctive design, or those considering the entry-level petrol and diesel engines for regular motorway driving.
