Suzuki Celerio (2014-2019) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Cheap to buy and run	Interior feels very cheap
Comfortable and easy to drive	Some would wish for more equipment
Good interior space given its size	Stodgy handling

Quick Summary

The Suzuki Celerio (2014-2019) is the ultimate no-frills small car, offering simple, dependable transport without pretence or frippery. Designed as a budget option, it prioritises practicality and affordability over style and luxury. Despite its diminutive exterior dimensions, the Celerio impresses with its high roofline and spacious interior, comfortably seating five with generous legroom and headroom. The 254-litre boot is generous for a car of this size, and even basic models include air-conditioning, central locking, DAB radio, alloy wheels, and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Celerio is comfortable and easy to drive around town, with a tight turning circle and responsive 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engines. Running costs are exceptionally low, with the Dualjet model achieving around 60mpg and earlier models around 50mpg. Pre-April 2017 models benefit from zero vehicle excise duty thanks to sub-100g/km CO2 emissions. The timing chain design eliminates the cost of periodic belt replacement. Whilst the interior feels cheap and handling is stodgy, the Celerio represents exceptional value for budget-conscious buyers seeking practical, economical transport.

Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking cheap, economical transport, those needing good interior space in a compact package, and drivers prioritising low running costs.

Not ideal for: Those seeking premium interior quality, advanced equipment, or engaging driving dynamics, or drivers who frequently travel at motorway speeds.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Celerio if: You're seeking budget-friendly, economical transport, need good interior space in a compact car, or prioritise low running costs over premium quality and driving engagement.

Consider alternatives if: You desire premium interior quality, advanced equipment, engaging driving dynamics, or frequently travel at motorway speeds where the Celerio feels out of its depth.

Competitive Position: The Suzuki Celerio (2014-2019) is a strong contender for budget-conscious buyers, offering exceptional value and practicality. However, it faces stiffer competition from the Skoda Citigo and Hyundai i10, which both score higher on expert ratings and overall CarGurus ratings. Whilst the Celerio matches the Citroën C1 on expert rating, rivals like the Citigo and i10 offer superior build quality and driving dynamics. The Celerio remains an excellent choice for those prioritising affordability and low running costs, though buyers willing to stretch their budget slightly may find more refined alternatives available.
