Suzuki Ignis (2016-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Funky, distinctive styling | Interior plastics can feel cheap |
| Compact size, excellent for city driving | Infotainment system can be slow |
| Surprisingly spacious and versatile interior | Bouncy ride over some surfaces |
Quick Summary
The Suzuki Ignis (2016-present) is a small SUV that packs a lot of character into its compact dimensions. Its funky styling, fat wheel arches, and mischievous face make it stand out, while its short length and narrow width are perfect for navigating tight city streets. Despite its small footprint, the tall design cleverly provides enough space for four adults to sit comfortably. The mid- and top-spec models offer versatile sliding individual rear seats, allowing you to prioritise passenger room or boot space, which ranges from 204 to 260 litres depending on the drivetrain.
While the ride can be a little bouncy over larger bumps, the Ignis is a surprisingly adept motorway cruiser and truly excels around town with its peppy 1.2-litre petrol engine. Running costs are a strong suit, with an average of around 50mpg and lower tax thanks to its alternative-fuel vehicle classification. A metal timing chain also reduces long-term maintenance. Basic SZ3 models come with air-con and Bluetooth, while higher trims add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though the built-in infotainment can be fiddly. An affordable four-wheel-drive option is available for those needing extra grip.
Best for: City drivers, those on a budget, seeking a characterful and practical small SUV, buyers prioritising low running costs and versatile seating.
Not ideal for: Buyers seeking premium interior quality, a consistently smooth ride, or a large boot (especially with 4WD), those who dislike fiddly infotainment systems.

The Verdict

Consider alternatives if: You seek premium interior quality, a consistently smooth ride, or a large boot (especially with 4WD), or dislike fiddly infotainment systems.
Competitive Position: The Suzuki Ignis (2016-present) carves out a niche as a distinctive, characterful, and highly practical small SUV. While its interior plastics and infotainment might not match more expensive rivals, its compact dimensions, versatile seating, excellent fuel economy, and low running costs make it a compelling choice for city dwellers and budget-conscious buyers. It offers a unique blend of SUV styling and city car agility, standing out from more conventional superminis and small crossovers.

4.5 Overall rating
(7 reviews)Excellent car, moves well, feel very secure. The only thing, especially when the car is new and it is at night time if their was some light where the media and the buttons below are - for me that is the only thing missing.
I love the 2019 Suzki Ingis. Its a fantastic small SUV. Everything you need for a city or country driving. Highly recommend serving at a Suzki garage too. Japan certainly know how to build a superb car.
I love the look, style and features of this car but my current car has similar features bigger engine and same mpg. Im still looking for the ideal car.
Nice to look at quite roomy nice layout but underpowered
I liked the layout of the dashboard good size screen the different colour trim was a nice touch good seat position for me as I am under 5ft overall a nice nippy little car
