| Excellent range and charging network | Some question marks over reliability |
| Very well equipped | More recent Tesla models are cheaper to buy new |
Quick Summary
The Tesla Model S (2014-present) redefined the electric car market, offering impressive range, performance, and advanced technology. Initially, it boasted a claimed 240-mile range for the 60kWh model, far exceeding rivals. It's highly practical, comfortably seating four adults, with a vast 709-litre boot and an 89-litre 'frunk'. Optional third-row seats offer seven-seater flexibility for occasional use. Despite its size, it provides precise steering and a relaxing ride, with even early rear-wheel-drive models achieving 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds.
The Model S continually saw improvements in technology and battery options, including quicker dual-motor versions and 'Ludicrous' mode for extreme acceleration. Its minimalist interior features a large touchscreen infotainment system. Running costs are significantly lower than petrol/diesel alternatives. While its Autopilot system requires driver attention, it offers advanced adaptive cruise and lane-keeping. Despite some reported glitches and build quality concerns, its long range, practicality, and value retention make it a compelling choice.
Best for: Drivers seeking a high-performance, long-range electric car with advanced technology, impressive practicality, and low running costs. Ideal for those who travel long distances thanks to the Supercharger network.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising ultimate interior finish, a more engaging driving experience than newer rivals like the Porsche Taycan, or those concerned about reported reliability issues.

The Verdict
You should buy the Tesla Model S if: You're looking for an electric car that offers comfort, refinement, serious punch, advanced tech, and excellent long-range capability, especially with access to the Supercharger network.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a plusher interior, a more rewarding driving experience (like the Porsche Taycan), or have concerns about reported reliability and build quality issues.
Competitive Position: The Tesla Model S remains a highly competitive luxury electric car, setting a benchmark for range, performance, and technology. While newer rivals like the Porsche Taycan might offer a more engaging drive or superior interior finish, the Model S counters with impressive practicality, lower running costs, and strong value retention, making it a compelling choice for those seeking a high-tech, long-distance EV.

5 Overall rating
(4 reviews)No engine with a “billion” moving parts, no transmission, no extras such as turbo chargers or intricate air intake systems just highly reliable electric motors means very little need for maintenance. Brakes last years and years because there is no need to use them much. A full tank costs a fraction of a fill up at the local pump. The included high tech is second to none. Software updates keep up with Jones and resolve what can be major issues with other cars.
Amazing technology. Still very expensive but worth the price. Looking forward to a long term ownership. Not sure yet but i dont think.it has autopark. I cannot think of any vehicle to compare it against.
Not the most luxurious but will do everything I want in a modern car.
Its clearly The car of the future as fossil fuelled new car sales banned in a few years. Technically its the very best electric vehicle, comfort; with its air suspension, the longest range in the EV market, safety wise its again ranked the very best or amongst them. Design wise, I love its sleek minimalist approach which works perfectly for me. Great reputation coupled with the most forward thinking car manufacturer for many decades. What is there not to like about the Tesla Model S.
