THE USED CAR WINNERS AND LOSERS OF 2017

New data from leading automotive shopping site, CarGurus, reveals the trending and not-so trending used cars of the year

  • BMW 3 Series tops the list of most searched for car of the year, followed by Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf
  • The German manufacturer's 3 Series also steals the search limelight in every month of 2017, except November, where the Range Rover Sport takes the top spot
  • Ford Ranger, Volkswagen Transporter and Porsche 911 have all seen the biggest increase in searches year on year
  • Fiat 500, Jaguar XF and Vauxhall Zafira all saw the biggest declines in popularity over the past year

As 2017 draws to an end, new data from leading automotive shopping site, CarGurus, reveals the used car winners and losers of 2017. From people carriers to hatchbacks and 4x4's to Minis, it's clear the BMW 3 Series is the firm favourite amongst car shoppers in the UK.
The German manufacturer's vehicle owned the top spot from January-October this year, and was closely followed by the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf. With the cold snap taking over this winter, it's perhaps no surprise that a very capable and desirable winter vehicle, the Range Rover Sport, secured the number one spot for searches in November.

When it comes to looking at the vehicles that have seen the biggest increase in popularity since 2016, there is a mix of luxury and everyday cars. Looking at the percentage increase in share of searches, the Ford Ranger has seen the biggest increase YOY (76.5%), followed by the Volkswagen Transporter which has almost doubled in searches (46.9%) and the Porsche 911 (46.1%).

In terms of the biggest losers this year, the Fiat 500 (-21.9%), Jaguar XF (-18.1%) and Vauxhall Zafira (-17.1%) all had the most declines in searches from 2016 to 2017.
