After almost two years of hype and controversy following the reveal of the Type 00 concept car, Jaguar has finally revealed the Type 01 – the all-electric GT that will re-launch the brand.
Huge in size and brutal in appearance, the Type 01 is a world away from the brand’s recent models and prices are expected to start at about £120,000 when it goes on sale in early 2027.
Here’s the full lowdown on the 2027 Jaguar Type 01.

2027 Jaguar Type 01: styling and dimensions
When Jaguar unveiled the outlandish Type 00 concept car in December 2024, many people suggested that the production car based on it would be considerably toned down. But they were wrong. While the Type 01 has proper headlights, door mirrors and the like, as well as a slightly higher roofline, it has the same outrageous proportions as the Tyep 00, with an incredibly long bonnet, vast wheelbase and narrow side windows. There’s the same curved roofline, along with massive (23-inch) alloy wheels that have only a slim fillet of bodywork above them.
At the front, the Type 01 has unusually slim headlights and instead of a traditional grille there’s a flat panel with the same ‘strikethrough’ element that features in various places throughout the car. Embossed at the centre of it is Jaguar’s new logo (written as jaGuar).
While Jaguar’s ‘Growler’ badge has been retired, its ‘Leaper’ emblem appears on the ‘Fender Ingot’ – a copper-coloured horizontal panel behind the front wheel. The rear end has a full-width strikethrough panel, with the tail lights concealed in the upper two horizontal bands and a Jaguar logo at its centre.
You may have noticed that there’s no rear window. As in the Polestar 4, it’s replaced by a rear-view camera linked to a display screen ahead of the driver.
As we mentioned, the Type 01 is huge. A length of more than 5.2 metres makes it longer than a standard-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Jaguar hasn’t quoted the width, but it’s safe to say that squeezing the Type 01 into your average supermarket parking bay is likely to be a challenge.
2027 Jaguar Type 01: interior design and practicality
The Type 01’s interior design is just as – if not even more – minimalist in approach than the exterior. There are definite concept car vibes, with a ‘central spine’ that splits the cabin into four individual spaces and little in the way of conventional elements other than some fairly standard-looking window switches on the doors.
A 24-inch OLED touchscreen/display takes care of most functions but an additional 7-inch, portrait-format touchscreen for the ‘most common key controls’ protrudes from the centre of the dashboard. A ‘Panoramic Soundbar’ speaker system stretches across the base of the windscreen – at its centre is a small screen that displays the view from the rear camera, replacing a conventional rear-view mirror.
Despite its size and four-door layout, the Type 01 isn’t a rival for conventional luxury saloons such as the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class thanks to its cozy four-seat layout and plunging roofline. Boot capacity is 450 litres, which is about the same amount you get in the new BMW 3 Series – a much smaller car overall.
2027 Jaguar Type 01: engines and driving dynamics
The Type 01 is powered by three electric motors, with one at the front and two at the rear giving a total output of 1,016bhp. That’s enough for a 0-60mph time of just 3.2 seconds and a 62mph-112mph time (where allowed, of course) of just 4.0 seconds.
As well as standard four-wheel drive, the Type 01 features a four-wheel steering system that turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front ones at low speed to give a tighter turning circle. Which could come in handy in that supermarket car park we mentioned earlier.
A 118kWh battery pack gives a targeted maximum range of 450 miles, which is very competitive for such a large, heavy car. A maximum charging speed of 350kW means that it will be possible to add up to 200 miles of range in 13 minutes, while charging from 10%-80% capacity can take as little as 22 minutes.
2027 Jaguar Type 01: price and release date
Jaguar hasn’t confirmed prices for the Type 01, but all the indications are that the starting point will be about £120,000 – a big step up from most of Jaguar’s previous models.
The Type 01 will go on sale in early 2027, with first deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
