The iX showcases BMW's latest tech, dominated by a huge curved display that combines the driver’s instruments and the main 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. The graphics are stunning, and it finally includes Android Auto alongside Apple CarPlay. While most functions are controlled via the screen, BMW has thankfully kept its rotary iDrive controller, which is much easier to use on the move.

The EQC features Mercedes' impressive MBUX system, with two 10-inch screens housed in a single panel. It can be controlled via the touchscreen, touchpads on the steering wheel, or voice commands. However, the system isn't quite as intuitive as BMW's, and some key features like adaptive cruise control and smartphone mirroring were optional extras on lower trim levels. The Mercedes EQC has just one battery option, which delivers an official range of up to 252 miles. In real-world driving, you can expect to see around 200-220 miles in summer and closer to 180 miles in winter. While the iX offers more range on paper, both cars will deliver significant savings on 'fuel' bills, especially if you can charge at home on a cheap overnight electricity tariff.
