The Kia EV6 and Skoda Enyaq are two outstanding all-electric family vehicles that blend crossover and SUV practicality with cutting-edge EV technology. Both bring fresh thinking and innovation to the family SUV class, and make great buys whether new or used.
The EV6 was launched in 2021, pitching itself as a high-tech electric crossover with a premium vibe and long driving range up to 328 miles. The Enyaq followed in 2022 as Skoda's first bespoke electric model, packaging family SUV versatility into a seriously roomy package with a range of up to 333 miles. So which of these two family EVs deserves to be at the top of your shortlist?
Kia EV6 vs Skoda Enyaq
Practicality
The Kia EV6 and Skoda Enyaq take different approaches to packaging, but both deliver the practicality you'd expect from a family vehicle in this class. Both take advantage of dedicated EV platforms to maximise interior space, but the EV6 is more of a hatchback/crossover in style whereas the Enyaq is very much an SUV. Despite its sleeker appearance, there's excellent head and legroom in the EV6, including in the rear seats, though the 490-litre boot is smaller than the boxier Enyaq's 585 litres. The Kia counters with a front trunk compartment for cable storage, but there's no getting away from the fact that the Enyaq is a larger and more practical car.
In fact, the Enyaq's boxy proportions allow for a vast rear cabin and capacious boot that will swallow a chunky double buggy with ease. The Skoda does provide underfloor storage in the boot for charging cables.
Ultimately, while the Enyaq has the edge for outright boot capacity, the EV6 is still impressively spacious given its sleeker shape. Both deliver the practicality modern families need, just in slightly different flavours. Dog owners, however, will prefer the Skoda's boxier boot.
Driving Impressions
When it comes to driving experience, the Kia EV6 and Skoda Enyaq take somewhat divergent paths shaped by their positioning. The EV6 leans into Kia's newfound premium aspirations, aiming to provide a more engaging and upmarket driving character albeit still balanced with everyday usability. To that end, even the base rear-wheel-drive model has a sporty edge, with punchy acceleration and tidy handling. Stepping up to the dual-motor AWD variants brings seriously rapid straight-line performance. Only the rather numb steering lets the side down a little. The flagship 577hp GT model transforms the EV6 into an outright performance machine on par with Tesla's finest.
The Enyaq, by contrast, prioritises comfort and refinement in keeping with Skoda's more affordable family car positioning. While still brisk enough for daily driving, it's not a performance vehicle. Instead, it impresses with its easy driving manners, exceptional ride quality and vault-like insulation from exterior noise. It's the more cosseting, fuss-free choice for those who value relaxed progress.
So while the EV6 has a slight performance edge, the Enyaq counters with superior long-distance cruising ability. Both are dynamically excellent, with the Kia being the keener driver's choice and the Skoda the more laid-back family hauler.
Technology and Equipment
Buyers in this class expect their family vehicle to be generously equipped with the latest tech and amenities. Happily, both the EV6 and Enyaq deliver on this front as range-topping models in their respective line-ups.
Every EV6 comes comprehensively specified with twin 12.3-inch digital displays, full smartphone integration, heated seats and steering wheel, LED lights, and a full suite of active safety systems. Higher trims layer on luxuries like a head-up display, wireless charging, upgraded audio, and 360-degree cameras.
The Enyaq matches the Kia feature-for-feature at the top end, while offering some kit as optional packs lower down rather than as standard. Its 13-inch touchscreen looks slick but is sometimes a little slow to respond, and it can be frustrating having to control things like air conditioning through on-screen menus.
In terms of range, both cars in their bigger battery formats will exceed 300 miles from a charge if driven carefully. Skoda has long offered the Enyaq with a smaller battery (badged 60), from which you can expect around 200-210 miles from a charge. Kia introduced a smaller battery version of the EV6 in 2025 with an official range of 265 miles, in part to compete with cars such as the Enyaq 60, but also to have a model in the range costing less than £40,000, and thus avoiding the luxury car tax supplement.
Running Costs
With their electric powertrains, the Kia EV6 and Skoda Enyaq should cost significantly less to run than comparable petrol or diesel alternatives, especially for company car drivers taking advantage of the current low BIK rates. As with any EV, charging at home rather than using the public charging network will result in significant savings too.
Purchase prices to buy new are still relatively high versus combustion-engined models, though both can be bought new for under £40,000. Arguably more tempting still is to search for a used model, because heavy depreciation on both cars (and especially the Enyaq) makes them look like very good value once a couple of years old. If doing that, Kia's seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty might rightly look more appealing than Skoda's three-year, 60,000-mile offering.
Verdict
The Kia EV6 and Skoda Enyaq take different approaches to being a premium electric family vehicle, but both make an excellent case for themselves.
The EV6 is the more stylish and driver-focused choice, packaging technology and performance into a sleek crossover body. It's great to drive yet still practical enough for family duties. The Enyaq is boxier and more conventional, but counters with slightly more versatility and a more cosseting, fuss-free driving experience.
With a used Enyaq undercutting the EV6 on purchase price while still delivering generous kit and range, it represents outstanding value. But the EV6's blend of upmarket character and long driving range will resonate with buyers willing to pay a bit more.
There's no clear winner here - both get a maximum five star rating our tests. It comes down to whether you prioritise the EV6's style and driver engagement or the Enyaq's pragmatic versatility and value for money. Both are superb all-round family EV packages.
