Overview
The BMW X5 M50d is a high-performance diesel variant of the German firm's popular luxury SUV, and traditionally sat at the top of the range of the model's diesel engines. The M50d was first introduced in the second-generation E70 X5, which was built between 2006 and 2013, but the M50d variant wasn't introduced until 2012. It had a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine with no fewer than three turbos to give it 376bhp for extremely impressive acceleration. When the Mk3 F15 came along, which was sold between 2013 and 2018, the same engine was lifted straight into the new M50d, and served throughout the new model's lifespan. The current G05 X5 arrived in 2019, and in this Mk4 version, the M50d was powered by a new 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine that upped the turbo count even further to four, and produced 394bhp. It was discontinued from sale in 2020.
