The Volkswagen Golf R Line is sporty trim level offered by VW on the popular Golf hatchback. The first R-Line version appeared on the Mk7 Golf towards the end of its life. It has sportier styling inside and out compared with lower-spec Golfs, but it's no sportier to drive as it uses the same engines (a mixture of petrol and diesel, with manual or twin-clutch automatic gearboxes) and suspension setup as most other models in the range. The Mk8 R-Line does get a lowered sports suspension as well as the extra styling goodies, but it's still hardly a hot hatch experience, with fairly conventional engine choices offered.
