The 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTD is a sporty diesel version of the Mk7 Golf. It has racy body styling - similar to that of the petrol-powered Golf GTI - and it's fitted with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine with 181bhp. It also develops 280lb ft or torque from just 1,750rpm. The 0-62mph dash takes 7.5 seconds, yet it can return around 60mpg. It's available in both hatchback and estate body styles.
