Amazing luxurious high command position drive with the luxury, gadgets and comfort of a full Range Rover but also the added zest of the sporty engine, a more widely available PHEV option and a really heads turning look. Been waiting to own a Range Rover for 50 years and now I’m here it’s even better than I imagined. Buy one - life’s too short to compromise.

Overview

The 2018 Range Rover Sport is a large luxury SUV that has a slightly sportier attitude than the full-fat Range Rover that sits above it in Land Rover’s line-up, meaning that it competes with cars such as the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne. It could be specified with five- or seven seats, too, which meant the Audi Q7 was also a competitor. It was part of the second generation of the car, known as the L494, but by 2018, a facelift had brought new engine choices including plug-in hybrid options, plus improved infotainment technology.

Strengths:

Posh-feeling interior
Supremely comfortable on the road
Genuinely good off-road

Weaknesses:

Poor reliability record
Most versions quite thirsty
Cramped third row in seven-seater

Is the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport better than the 2018 BMW X5?

The Range Rover Sport is a truly lovely car, with a gorgeously-trimmed, luxurious-feeling cabin that has plenty of space and is stacked with luxury equipment, while it’s also comfortable and controlled on the road, and borderline unstoppable off it. However, the car has a poor reliability record, with trouble being commonplace, and which often prove expensive and time-consuming to fix. The BMW is far from perfect in this regard, but it will likely be a safer bet.
