Audi A4 (2016-2024) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Quiet and comfortable on long journeys | Not as engaging to drive as the BMW 3 Series or Jaguar XE |
| Wide range of efficient petrol and diesel engines | The Avant is not as practical as larger estate cars you can buy for similar money |
| Well equipped, even if you choose the base model | Ride comfort suffers with sport suspension |
Quick Summary
The Audi A4 (2016-2024) represents the highly competent fifth-generation of Audi's executive saloon or estate car. Known for its smart looks, beautifully crafted interior, and efficient engines, it offers a spacious and comfortable experience. While it may not match the driving thrill of a BMW 3 Series or the aspirational feel of a Mercedes C-Class, its overall package is very complete. This generation was replaced by the A5 in 2024, reflecting Audi's new naming convention where odd numbers denote combustion-engined cars.
The A4 provides competitive boot space, comparable to the 3 Series and better than the C-Class, with flexible three-section folding rear seats. Its handling is satisfying, feeling planted and assured, especially with quattro all-wheel drive, though it prioritises comfort over engagement. Equipped with a first-class infotainment system and available Virtual Cockpit, even base SE models are well-specified. Running costs are reasonable, with diesel models achieving 50-55mpg and petrols around 40-45mpg, further enhanced by Audi's fixed-price servicing for older models.
Best for: Buyers seeking a classy, competent, and comfortable executive saloon or estate with a high-quality interior and efficient engines, especially for long-distance driving.
Not ideal for: Drivers who prioritise an engaging, sporty driving experience (like the BMW 3 Series or Alfa Romeo Giulia) or those needing maximum estate car practicality from the Avant model.

The Verdict
You should buy the A4 if: You're looking for a classy, competent, and comfortable executive saloon or estate with a high-quality interior and efficient engines, particularly for long-distance journeys.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a more engaging and sporty driving experience, or if maximum estate car practicality is a primary concern.
Competitive Position: The Audi A4 (2016-2024) stands as a strong contender in the executive car segment, offering a compelling blend of sophisticated design, a premium interior, and efficient powertrains. While it may not match the ultimate driving dynamics of some rivals, its comfort, quality, and advanced technology make it an excellent choice for buyers seeking a refined and practical daily driver, representing solid value for its class.

4.3 Overall rating
(12 reviews)Amazing performance i highly recommend this car for everyone
The cars are really nice it’s just some are just over priced especially with higher miles
I have always loved Audi cars and I think you got a good collection of cars to make a good choice from. Sometimes there are misrepresentations on some cars. you find that the car is manual whereas the details given do not much the pictures of the car. Just something to be mindful of other than that you are excellent
Good car but a lot of work have to be done on it
I think the black addition just look right and has a good spec
