Audi A5 (2007-2015) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Handsome styling is ageing well	Not especially spacious inside
The cabin is very well made	Rivals such as the BMW 3 Series are more fun to drive
Wide choice of engines to suit different priorities	Ride comfort suffers on big alloys

Quick Summary

The Audi A5 (2007-2015) is a suave and stylish two-door coupe based on the popular A4 saloon, offering a beautifully crafted interior with plush materials and smart styling. Available in coupe, Sportback, and cabriolet forms, it provides a wide array of engine options ranging from a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol to a 4.2-litre V8, allowing buyers to select the best blend of economy and performance. The 2012 facelift brought a more aggressive front end, LED rear lights, and improved engine efficiency across the range.

Whilst the A5 isn't the most spacious or exciting to drive compared to rivals like the BMW 3 Series Coupe, its beautifully appointed interior, diverse engine choices, and elegant design make it an increasingly attractive proposition. The 2.0 TDI diesel achieves around 45-50mpg in real-world driving, whilst the 1.8-litre petrol manages 35-40mpg. Servicing costs are generally reasonable, and most models feature timing chains requiring no scheduled replacement. The Sportback variant offers practical versatility with a 480-litre boot, whilst the cabriolet provides open-top thrills for four occupants.

Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, well-made executive coupe with a refined interior, those prioritising a wide choice of engine options, and those wanting open-top or practical hatchback versatility.

Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising interior space, those seeking the most engaging driving dynamics, or buyers with limited budgets for servicing performance variants.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the A5 if: You're seeking a stylish, well-made executive coupe with a refined interior, prioritising a wide choice of engine options, or wanting open-top or practical hatchback versatility.

Consider alternatives if: You require maximum interior space, desire the most engaging driving dynamics, or have limited budgets for servicing performance variants.

Competitive Position: The Audi A5 (2007-2015) is a compelling choice in the executive coupe market, offering elegant styling that has aged remarkably well and a superbly crafted interior. Whilst it trails rivals like the BMW 4 Series and Jaguar XF Mk1 for driving engagement, and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe for user satisfaction, the A5's diverse engine range, multiple body styles, and reasonable servicing costs make it an attractive proposition. Its beautifully appointed cabin and timeless design ensure it remains a sophisticated and desirable used purchase for those prioritising refinement and style over outright sportiness.
