Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Low levels of wind and road noise | Boot is small by class standards |
| Lots of space for passengers | Interior quality not as good as previous A6 |
| Smart styling helps it to stand out | Limited engine range |
Quick Summary
The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) is a premium executive estate that combines elegant styling with a smooth, refined driving experience. It offers generous passenger space with excellent rear legroom and comfortable, supportive front seats ideal for long-distance travel. The car features three powertrain options: a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol with front-wheel drive, a 2.0-litre TDI diesel with four-wheel drive, and a plug-in hybrid e-hybrid variant. All models come with a seven-speed S Tronic automatic gearbox and deliver impressive refinement, particularly on motorways where wind and road noise are well suppressed.
However, the A6 Avant has notable drawbacks. Its boot capacity is surprisingly small for its class—503 litres for petrol models, 466 litres for diesel, and just 404 litres for the plug-in hybrid—falling short of rivals like the BMW 5 Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate. Fuel economy is modest, with petrol models achieving 30-35mpg and diesel around 40-45mpg in real-world driving. The plug-in hybrid incurs higher company car tax despite offering similar performance to competitors. Additionally, the infotainment system, whilst feature-rich, can be fiddly to operate, and the interior quality doesn't quite match the previous generation.
Best for: Drivers prioritising refinement and passenger comfort on long journeys, those seeking premium badge appeal, and buyers wanting a smooth, quiet executive estate.
Not ideal for: Those needing maximum boot space, budget-conscious buyers, or those seeking the best fuel economy in the executive estate segment.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audi A6 Avant | 3/5 | 4.0/5 | 31.0% | 4.0/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 33.0% | 4.4/5 |
| Volvo V90 | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 29.3% | 4.2/5 |
| BMW 5 Series Touring | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 34.2% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the A6 Avant if: You prioritise refinement and passenger comfort on long journeys, seek premium badge appeal, and want a smooth, quiet executive estate.
Consider alternatives if: You need maximum boot space, prioritise fuel economy, or require the best value proposition in the executive estate segment.
Competitive Position: The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) is a capable executive estate that excels in refinement and passenger comfort. However, it faces stiff competition from rivals that offer superior practicality and value. The BMW 5 Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate both score higher on the CarGurus ratings, with the BMW offering better value and the Mercedes delivering superior user satisfaction. The Volvo V90 provides an alternative with strong user appeal. Whilst the A6 Avant's elegant styling and smooth driving dynamics are appealing, its undersized boot and modest fuel economy make it a less compelling choice than its competitors for those prioritising practicality and efficiency.
