Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Low levels of wind and road noise | Boot is small by class standards |
| Lots of space for passengers | Interior quality not as good as previous A6 |
| Smart styling helps it to stand out | Limited engine range |
Quick Summary
The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) is a premium estate car that combines elegant styling with a refined driving experience. It offers impressive passenger space with generous legroom and headroom, making it ideal for families seeking comfort on longer journeys. The car excels at motorway cruising, with excellent noise insulation and a smooth, quiet ride. Three powertrain options are available: a 2.0-litre petrol TFSI with front-wheel drive, a 2.0-litre diesel TDI with four-wheel drive, and a plug-in hybrid e-hybrid variant offering up to 63 miles of electric-only range.
However, the A6 Avant falls short in one critical area for an estate car: boot space. At just 503 litres for petrol models, 466 litres for diesel, and a mere 404 litres for the plug-in hybrid, it lags significantly behind rivals and even some smaller vehicles. Fuel economy is modest, with petrol models achieving 30-35mpg and diesels around 40-45mpg in real-world driving. The plug-in hybrid's company car tax is notably higher than competitors despite offering identical power output. Running costs are reasonable with flexible servicing options available, though the A6 Avant represents a missed opportunity in the luxury estate segment.
Best for: Buyers prioritising comfort, refinement, and passenger space on long-distance journeys, and those seeking premium Audi badge appeal and styling.
Not ideal for: Families needing maximum boot capacity, budget-conscious buyers, or those requiring exceptional fuel economy or low company car tax.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audi A6 Avant | 3/5 | 3.5/5 | N/A | 3.8/5 |
| BMW 5 Series Touring | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 37.6% | 4.5/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 34.5% | 4.4/5 |
| Volvo V90 | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 31.8% | 4.2/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the A6 Avant if: You prioritise comfort, refinement, and passenger space on long-distance journeys, and seek premium Audi badge appeal and styling.
Consider alternatives if: You need maximum boot capacity, are budget-conscious, or require exceptional fuel economy and low company car tax.
Competitive Position: The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) is a capable premium estate, but it struggles to compete effectively against its rivals. Whilst it delivers a smooth, quiet, and comfortable driving experience with impressive passenger accommodation, its undersized boot—a critical requirement for an estate car—significantly undermines its appeal. The BMW 5 Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate both offer superior practicality, better fuel economy, and lower running costs, whilst the Volvo V90 provides exceptional user satisfaction. For buyers willing to compromise on boot space in favour of refinement and styling, the A6 Avant remains a compelling choice, but it represents a missed opportunity in a segment where practicality should be paramount.
