Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Low levels of wind and road noise	Boot is small by class standards
Lots of space for passengers	Interior quality not as good as previous A6
Smart styling helps it to stand out	Limited engine range

Quick Summary

The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) is a premium estate car that combines elegant styling with a refined driving experience. It offers impressive passenger space with generous legroom and headroom, making it ideal for families seeking comfort on longer journeys. The car excels at motorway cruising, with excellent refinement and a smooth, quiet cabin. Three powertrain options are available: a 2.0-litre petrol TFSI with front-wheel drive, a 2.0-litre diesel TDI with four-wheel drive, and a plug-in hybrid e-hybrid variant offering up to 63 miles of electric-only range.

However, the A6 Avant has notable shortcomings. The boot is surprisingly small for its class, offering just 503 litres in petrol models, 466 litres in diesel versions, and only 404 litres in the plug-in hybrid—less spacious than some smaller rivals. Fuel economy is modest, with petrol models achieving 30-35mpg and diesels around 40-45mpg in real-world driving. The mild hybrid system can feel jerky at low speeds, and the infotainment system, whilst feature-rich, requires fiddly touchscreen navigation for climate controls. Company car tax on the plug-in hybrid is particularly steep.

Best for: Buyers prioritising premium badge appeal, refined motorway cruising, and passenger comfort over boot space; those seeking a smooth, quiet luxury estate.

Not ideal for: Families needing maximum boot capacity, budget-conscious buyers, or those requiring excellent fuel economy and low running costs.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the A6 Avant if: You prioritise premium badge appeal, refined motorway cruising, and passenger comfort, and can overlook the modest boot space.

Consider alternatives if: You need maximum boot capacity, seek excellent fuel economy and low running costs, or require a car with superior value proposition.

Competitive Position: The Audi A6 Avant (2025-present) is a capable premium estate, but it faces stiff competition from stronger rivals. Whilst it excels in refinement and passenger space, its small boot—a critical estate car requirement—is a significant disadvantage. The BMW 5 Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate both score higher on expert ratings and offer better overall value. The Volvo V90, though limited to plug-in hybrid form, provides a compelling alternative with superior boot space and value proposition. For buyers seeking a refined, quiet luxury estate with premium appeal, the A6 Avant delivers; however, rivals make a more convincing case as practical family holdalls.
