Audi Q5 (2025-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Sharp styling	Expensive to buy
Practical interior with lots of space	Complex infotainment system
Polished driving experience	Average warranty coverage

Quick Summary

The Audi Q5 (2025-present) is a premium family SUV that combines upmarket styling, powerful yet efficient engines, and exceptional practicality. Available in standard five-seater and coupe-like Sportback variants, it features either a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol or 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, both producing 201bhp with mild hybrid technology and all-wheel drive. A plug-in hybrid e-hybrid model offers approximately 60 miles of all-electric range. The longer wheelbase of this third-generation model creates enhanced interior space, with a 520-litre boot (515 litres for Sportback) and clever sliding rear seats on higher trims that trade legroom for additional boot capacity.

The Q5 delivers a polished and satisfying driving experience with responsive handling, well-weighted steering, and excellent noise insulation for motorway cruising. Fuel economy is respectable at 37-40mpg for petrol and 44-47mpg for diesel models. The interior is hi-tech and well-equipped across all trims, though the infotainment system can be complex to navigate. Starting at around £50,000, the Q5 commands premium pricing and sits in higher insurance groups, but should hold its value well. The SQ5 performance variant offers 362bhp for those seeking more excitement.

Best for: Buyers seeking a premium, practical family SUV with sharp styling, polished driving dynamics, and strong residual values; those wanting a blend of luxury and practicality.

Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers; those prioritising simplicity in technology interfaces; drivers seeking the most responsive handling in the segment.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Q5 if: You seek a premium, practical family SUV with sharp styling, polished driving dynamics, and strong residual values; you value luxury and practicality in equal measure.

Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious, prioritise simplicity in technology interfaces, or seek the most responsive handling available in the segment.

Competitive Position: The Audi Q5 remains a strong contender in the premium SUV market, offering exceptional practicality, sharp styling, and a polished driving experience. Whilst the Volvo XC60 and Omoda 9 match or exceed it in user ratings and value proposition, the Q5's blend of premium feel, efficient engines, and strong residual values justify its premium pricing. The BMW X3 offers more responsive handling but at a similar cost. For buyers prioritising a well-rounded premium SUV with excellent space and refinement, the Q5 is rightly desirable, though Chinese alternatives like the Omoda 9 now offer compelling value propositions.
