Reviewed a 2018 Audi S4 Avant on 23 Apr 2021

I originally was looking for a RS4. Although the RS4 is without doubt a amazing car, the cost to buy a good second hand vehicle was truly stunning with prices around £35K for a 2013 low to average mileage example. I then started to look at S4 Avants and compared to an RS4 the value for money is very obvious. The S4 is a very capable car in its own right and the performance not that short of a RS4. The big game changer for me was the running costs and Im not talking about just the fuel, but general items and consumable like brakes and suspension etc. Whilst there is no doubt that the lure of that wonderful 4.2Ltr V8 and the wide wheel arches is very hard to resist, common sense must prevail. I have now purchased a low mileage S4 Avant black edition, fully loaded with pan sunroof and £12k worth of extras when new. On a 2018 plate and all for under £30K Its a no brainer. Brilliant car, plenty of performance and 32MPG. And heres the rub, I spent ages researching both cars and it would seem there are less S4s on the market that RS4s. What does that tell you.? If you want a fast and dependable quality built estate car with good residual values , reasonable running costs that wont attract the car thieves then to me the S4 is the obvious choice.
