Audi TT Mk3 (2014-2023) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Flagship TT RS rivals more expensive cars for performance	An Alpine A110 delivers a more exciting drive
Practical boot for a coupe	Only early examples were available with a manual gearbox
Post-2018 cars have generous standard equipment	Rear seats are a token gesture

Quick Summary

The Audi TT Mk3 (2014-2023) is a stylish and practical sports car that blends performance with everyday usability. Introduced in 2014 on the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform, it features sharper exterior styling, an upmarket interior, and renewed focus on driving dynamics compared to its predecessor. The range includes the high-performance TTS from launch, an economical diesel option, and the range-topping TT RS with a 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine capable of 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds. A significant 2018 update brought further refinements, and a Roadster variant offers drop-top enjoyment.

The TT is easy to live with daily, offering smooth and responsive TFSI petrol engines, well-weighted steering, and powerful brakes. The quattro all-wheel-drive system provides confident handling in poor conditions. Whilst not as involving as a Porsche 718 Cayman, the TT remains gratifying and quick to drive. The 305-litre boot is generous for a coupe with easy hatchback access. Running costs are reasonable, with front-wheel-drive models achieving 30-40mpg in real-world driving and quattro variants around 30-35mpg. Post-2018 models come well-equipped as standard, though rear seats are genuinely cramped and best considered as luggage space.

Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, practical sports car for daily use, those wanting accessible performance without excessive running costs, and drivers prioritising comfort and equipment over raw driving engagement.

Not ideal for: Enthusiasts wanting a more engaging drive like the Alpine A110, those needing genuine rear passenger space, or buyers seeking a manual transmission (limited to early examples only).

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the TT if: You want a stylish, practical sports car for daily use, seek accessible performance without excessive running costs, or prioritise comfort and equipment over raw driving engagement.

Consider alternatives if: You desire a more engaging drive like the Alpine A110, need genuine rear passenger space, or require a manual transmission (limited to early examples only).

Competitive Position: The Audi TT Mk3 occupies a strong middle ground in the sports car market. Whilst the Alpine A110 and Porsche 718 Cayman offer more engaging driving dynamics, the TT compensates with superior practicality, lower running costs, and easier daily usability. It outperforms the Nissan 370Z in terms of modern technology and equipment, whilst offering comparable performance in the TT RS guise. For buyers seeking a stylish, capable sports car that doesn't demand compromise on comfort or convenience, the TT remains an excellent choice.
