BMW invented a new branch on the SUV family tree with its genre-busting X6, and with the X4 it brought the idea of ‘Sports Activity Coupe’ – its words not ours – to a wider audience. Essentially a fastback version of the BMW X3, the X4 loses some outright practicality in the pursuit of style, which adds as much appeal to some buyers as it has the capacity to downright offend others. Divisive then, but what’s undeniable is that the BMW X4 is good to drive.
