BMW iX2 (2024-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Very good to drive	Rear headroom severely cramped
Beautifully plush interior	Woeful rear visibility
Large, versatile boot	Complex infotainment is touchscreen-only

Quick Summary

The BMW iX2 (2024-present) is an all-electric compact crossover SUV that combines striking coupe-inspired styling with premium quality and impressive performance. Available in two powertrain options—a front-wheel-drive eDrive20 with 201bhp and an all-wheel-drive xDrive30 with 309bhp—the iX2 delivers brisk to rapid acceleration depending on specification. Only available in high-end M Sport trim, it comes generously equipped with adaptive suspension, heated sports seats, LED lighting, parking sensors, and a reversing camera. The 64.8kWh battery provides up to 283 miles of range, with rapid-charging capability reaching 10-80% in 29 minutes.

The iX2 excels with its beautifully crafted interior, excellent driving dynamics, and substantial 525-litre boot. However, the swooping roofline sacrifices rear headroom and visibility, making it better suited for families with younger children. The touchscreen-only infotainment system, whilst visually impressive, lacks physical controls for climate functions. At over £51,000, it's a premium proposition, though zero VED road tax and low company car tax (2% Benefit-in-kind) offer running cost advantages. Insurance premiums sit in groups 31-38 depending on powertrain.

Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, premium electric SUV with strong performance, those valuing interior quality and technology, and company car drivers benefiting from low Benefit-in-kind taxation.

Not ideal for: Families with tall teenagers, drivers prioritising rear headroom and visibility, those preferring physical climate controls, or budget-conscious buyers seeking lower purchase prices.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the iX2 if: You value premium interior quality and styling, seek strong performance in an electric SUV, or are a company car driver benefiting from low Benefit-in-kind taxation.

Consider alternatives if: You need spacious rear headroom, require excellent rear visibility, prefer physical climate controls, or are seeking the best value proposition in the segment.

Competitive Position: The BMW iX2 is a compelling premium electric SUV that delivers excellent driving dynamics and interior quality, though it sits at a higher price point than some rivals. Whilst the Tesla Model Y and Audi Q4 e-tron offer stronger overall CarGurus ratings and better user satisfaction, the iX2 distinguishes itself through its distinctive styling, adaptive suspension technology, and premium cabin ambiance. The Volvo C40 provides an alternative premium option, though the iX2's performance advantage and standard equipment levels make it a strong contender for buyers prioritising driving engagement and interior refinement over maximum practicality.
