Dacia Sandero (2021-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very cheap to buy | Modest safety standards |
| Roomy and practical cabin | Stingy list of standard kit |
| Affordable to fuel and insure | Basic fit and finish |
Quick Summary
The Dacia Sandero (2021-present) has garnered a fiercely loyal following for its honest, no-frills approach and incredible value, consistently ranking as Europe’s best-selling retail car. The latest generation, built on the modern Renault Clio platform, represents a significant upgrade, offering improved driving dynamics, enhanced safety features, and more advanced equipment compared to its predecessor, all while maintaining its famously affordable price point. It provides generous supermini space, comfortably accommodating adults in the rear, and boasts a larger boot than many rivals.
Running costs are notably low, with the manual TCe 90 engine achieving over 53mpg, complemented by reasonable insurance and servicing expenses. Its exceptional residual values, retaining up to 57% of its original value after three years, make it an incredibly smart investment. While the driving experience may not be the most refined and lower trims are basic, higher specifications include a brilliant 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and other desirable features, cementing its position as an astounding value proposition.
Best for: Drivers on a tight budget, those needing a spacious and practical supermini, and buyers seeking excellent value and low running costs.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising premium interior quality, highly refined driving dynamics, or cutting-edge standard technology across all trims.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium interior quality, highly refined driving dynamics, or cutting-edge standard technology across all trims.
Competitive Position: The Dacia Sandero (2021-present) stands out in the supermini market as an exceptional value proposition. It offers generous space, low running costs, and impressive residual values, making it highly attractive for budget-conscious buyers. While it may not match rivals like the Hyundai i10 or Kia Picanto for driving refinement or standard tech in lower trims, its significant improvements in driving dynamics and available equipment, combined with its unbeatable price, make it a compelling choice for those seeking practicality and affordability without compromising too much on modern features.

4.7 Overall rating
(6 reviews)Road handling was excellent and responded excellent when applying brakes on the Motorways. It did extremely good on fuel - petrol and it really was a pleasure to drive it!
This car has got everything I need and more, superb smooth drive
I have the Access model which is a basic car. No central locking, no electric windows, however, these are not essential specs in my view. Great little runabout, cheap obviously, does the job.
