Dacia Sandero (2013-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very cheap to buy | Modest safety standards |
| Roomy and practical cabin | Stingy list of standard kit |
| Affordable to fuel and insure | Basic fit and finish |
Quick Summary
The Dacia Sandero (2013-2020) is a budget-focused supermini that prioritises value and practicality over premium features. Built on proven Renault technology, it offers straightforward, accessible motoring with a spacious cabin that rivals larger competitors. The rear provides excellent head- and legroom, whilst the 320-litre boot (1,200 litres with seats folded) is competitive in its class. A 2016 facelift added refinements including chrome accents and repositioned electric window switches, improving the overall cabin experience.
Engine options include a 1.2-litre petrol (best avoided), a more modern 1.0-litre petrol, a turbocharged 0.9-litre petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel. The 0.9-litre turbo offers the best balance of performance and efficiency, whilst the diesel suits high-mileage drivers. Running costs are impressively low, with fuel economy around 40-60mpg depending on engine choice and tax bands favouring lower CO2 emissions. Trim levels range from spartan Access models to well-equipped Laureate variants, with 2018 revisions introducing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on higher trims. Whilst not as engaging as rivals like the Ford Fiesta or Seat Ibiza, the Sandero delivers reliable, comfortable, and spacious transport at an unbeatable price.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers, those needing practical family transport, and drivers seeking low running costs and affordable insurance.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising driving dynamics, premium interior quality, comprehensive standard equipment, or advanced safety features.

4.7 Overall rating
(6 reviews)Road handling was excellent and responded excellent when applying brakes on the Motorways. It did extremely good on fuel - petrol and it really was a pleasure to drive it!
This car has got everything I need and more, superb smooth drive
I have the Access model which is a basic car. No central locking, no electric windows, however, these are not essential specs in my view. Great little runabout, cheap obviously, does the job.
Very nice car e good pody e strong motor
