Good value for sure, however aircon could brew more efficient.

Basic but a nice drive. Plenty of pull despite the 0.9 litre engine.

Road handling was excellent and responded excellent when applying brakes on the Motorways. It did extremely good on fuel - petrol and it really was a pleasure to drive it!

Dacia Sandero (2013-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very cheap to buy | Modest safety standards |
| Roomy and practical cabin | Stingy list of standard kit |
| Affordable to fuel and insure | Basic fit and finish |
Quick Summary
The Dacia Sandero (2013-2020) is a budget supermini that prioritises value and practicality above all else. Owned by Renault, it uses proven technology to deliver straightforward, accessible motoring at an exceptionally low price point. Whilst rivals like the Ford Fiesta and Skoda Fabia offer more refinement, superior styling, and higher-quality materials, the Sandero's twin USPs are affordability and practicality. The cabin is basic but functional, with hard plastics throughout, though a 2016 facelift added modest refinements. The rear offers excellent head- and legroom, surpassing many contemporaries, and the 320-litre boot (1,200 litres with seats folded) is competitive in its class.
The Sandero isn't as engaging to drive as sportier rivals, with early examples offering a wheezy 1.2-litre petrol, a turbocharged 0.9-litre, or a 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.0-litre petrol that replaced the 1.2-litre is much sweeter, whilst the turbo offers good mid-range punch. Running costs are low, with diesels achieving around 60mpg and petrol engines around 40-44mpg in real-world driving. Tax and insurance groups are reasonable, and servicing is straightforward with 12,000-mile intervals. It's a no-nonsense car that performs adequately, offers comfort for most journeys, and provides spacious accommodation without pretension.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers, those needing practical family transport, and drivers seeking low running costs and affordable insurance.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising engaging driving dynamics, premium interior quality, comprehensive standard equipment, or advanced safety features.

The Verdict
You should buy the Sandero if: You're on a tight budget, need practical family transport, or seek low running costs and affordable insurance premiums.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engaging driving dynamics, premium interior quality, comprehensive standard equipment, or advanced safety features.
Competitive Position: The Dacia Sandero (2013-2020) occupies a unique position in the used supermini market as the most affordable option. Whilst the Ford Fiesta and Seat Ibiza offer more engaging driving experiences, the Skoda Fabia provides greater practicality, and the Kia Rio and Renault Clio boast stronger reputations for quality, the Sandero's exceptional value proposition is unmatched. It delivers reliable, straightforward motoring with genuine practicality and low running costs. For budget-conscious buyers who prioritise affordability and functionality over premium feel or driving thrills, the Sandero represents excellent value and remains a sensible choice that shouldn't be dismissed.
