Fiat 500L (2013-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Versatile and practical cabin | Basic standard of finish |
| Available with five or seven seats | Poor real-world economy of TwinAir models |
| Cheap used car prices | Not at all sporty to drive |
Quick Summary
The Fiat 500L (2013-present) is an unconventional-looking mini MPV, offering a surprising amount of interior space due to its upright design and large windows, despite a narrow cabin. It prioritises comfort over sportiness, with a cushy ride and light, slow steering designed to minimise body roll and keep passengers comfortable. While engines can be noisy, the car excels in practicality, providing ample headroom and legroom, and good safety with a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The dashboard is cheerful, often featuring body-coloured plastics and chunky controls, though some materials are basic.
Boot space is generous for an MPV, with sliding 60/40 split rear seats for versatility, and the MPW version offers seven seats in a compact footprint. Basic trims include a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and air conditioning, with higher trims adding a 7-inch screen and optional smartphone integration. Engine options include inefficient TwinAir units, smoother 1.4-litre petrols, and highly economical 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre MultiJet diesels. While not cheap new, its weak residual values make it an affordable used purchase, offering excellent value for a versatile and practical family vehicle, especially in higher specifications.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, those needing a versatile and practical family MPV, buyers who appreciate unconventional styling, or those seeking an affordable used car with good space.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising sporty driving dynamics, premium interior materials, strong residual values, or those sensitive to engine noise or slow steering.

The Verdict
You should buy the Fiat 500L if: You're on a budget, seeking a versatile and practical family MPV, appreciate its unconventional styling, or want an affordable used car with good space.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sporty driving dynamics, premium interior materials, strong residual values, or are sensitive to engine noise or slow steering.
Competitive Position: The Fiat 500L (2013-present) offers exceptional practicality and versatility, especially with its available seven-seat MPW variant, at a very attractive used price point due to weak residual values. While its distinctive styling and comfortable but not sporty driving dynamics might not appeal to everyone, its spacious interior, good safety rating, and economical diesel engines make it a sensible choice for families on a budget. It stands out by offering substantial space in a compact footprint, though rivals might offer more refined driving or higher-quality interiors.

4.8 Overall rating
(4 reviews)If you want a lot of car for not a lot of money then look no further! We have 2 of these (we love them so much). Firstly the engine; a 1.6 multi jet diesel with fantastic punch, smooth execution and pretty quiet on the ears too! Both ours are ‘Lounge’ spec so they’re well equipped too. We have both the standard 500L and the MPW.. both are spacious and comfortable (though I do miss an arm rest on the driver’s seat, considering this is the highest model and that technically, they’re MPVs I’d have expected an arm rest. In the 500L you get parking sensors, multimedia touch screen player with USB connectors and Bluetooth, electric windows & door mirrors, hill start and ABS, city steering , tyre pressure monitors, stop start and a full pan glass roof. The MPW is virtually the same but the roof is upgraded to a glass sunroof (both models have an electric blind). The MPW also has 2 extra seats that fold in the boot (suitable for kids up to about 8 years old and that’s about it!).. the boot space is however, cavernous! Plenty of power in these cars, we even pull our folding camper with the MPW). Highly recommended!
I like that it looks different to other similar cars but read that the automatic gear is not very good so put me off.
Lovely car lots room, nice drive and vary comfortable.
Any 2013 - 2014 models will be considered... Car can either be a MULTIJET or trekking Im not too fusst about that
