Fiat 500L (2013-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Versatile and practical cabin | Basic standard of finish |
| Available with five or seven seats | Poor real-world economy of TwinAir models |
| Cheap used car prices | Not at all sporty to drive |
Quick Summary
The Fiat 500L (2013-present) is a compact MPV offering surprising interior space, despite its boxy, distinctive styling. While the cabin is narrow, it's upright, offering ample headroom and legroom, and large windows enhance its airy feel. The cheerful dashboard often incorporates body-coloured plastics. Standard boot space is good for an MPV, and sliding rear seats enhance versatility. A stretched MPW version offers seven seats and even more cargo capacity, up to 1,509 litres with seats folded.
Driving dynamics are focused on comfort, with a cushy ride absorbing bumps, though engines can be noisy and steering slow. It achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating, with standard safety features including six airbags. Standard equipment typically includes air conditioning, remote central locking, and rear parking sensors, with later models offering Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. While the TwinAir engine struggles with efficiency, the 1.4-litre petrol and especially the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel offer better real-world economy. Weak residual values make the 500L an affordable used purchase.
Best for: Drivers who appreciate distinctive styling, those needing a versatile and practical small MPV with five or seven seats, budget-conscious buyers, and those seeking a comfortable car that's cheap to run.
Not ideal for: Buyers who dislike its 'Marmite' styling, prioritise sporty driving dynamics, expect premium interior materials, or require strong residual values.

The Verdict
You should buy the 500L if: You're a fan of its distinctive looks, need a versatile and practical small MPV with five or seven seats, are on a budget, or want a comfortable car that's cheap to run.
Consider alternatives if: You dislike its 'Marmite' styling, prioritise sporty driving dynamics, expect premium interior materials, or require strong residual values.
Competitive Position: The Fiat 500L (2013-present) stands out in the compact MPV segment for its versatile and spacious cabin, available five or seven-seat configurations, and attractive used car prices. While its divisive styling and lack of sporty driving dynamics might not appeal to everyone, its comfort, practicality, and low running costs (with the right engine) make it a strong option for budget-conscious families seeking maximum utility and a distinctive look.

4.8 Overall rating
(4 reviews)If you want a lot of car for not a lot of money then look no further! We have 2 of these (we love them so much). Firstly the engine; a 1.6 multi jet diesel with fantastic punch, smooth execution and pretty quiet on the ears too! Both ours are ‘Lounge’ spec so they’re well equipped too. We have both the standard 500L and the MPW.. both are spacious and comfortable (though I do miss an arm rest on the driver’s seat, considering this is the highest model and that technically, they’re MPVs I’d have expected an arm rest. In the 500L you get parking sensors, multimedia touch screen player with USB connectors and Bluetooth, electric windows & door mirrors, hill start and ABS, city steering , tyre pressure monitors, stop start and a full pan glass roof. The MPW is virtually the same but the roof is upgraded to a glass sunroof (both models have an electric blind). The MPW also has 2 extra seats that fold in the boot (suitable for kids up to about 8 years old and that’s about it!).. the boot space is however, cavernous! Plenty of power in these cars, we even pull our folding camper with the MPW). Highly recommended!
I like that it looks different to other similar cars but read that the automatic gear is not very good so put me off.
Lovely car lots room, nice drive and vary comfortable.
Any 2013 - 2014 models will be considered... Car can either be a MULTIJET or trekking Im not too fusst about that
