I looked at a few different models, when I bought my current van. My requirements being good load space but keeping body width down as small as possible, whilst still being short enough to drive around town and to park. After finding many of the alternatives were either poor to drive, bad dealer experiences / reviews online (not mentioning any names but SAIC / LDV did not seem to be popular - plus there's no local dealership to me if I needed them. So they were a big NO despite having something of similar size and shape). In the end I'd narrowed it down to the Peugeot/Citroen/Vauxhall/Fiat partnership. Because I was buying used, it was more a case of which ones were available that ticked the boxes rather than any brand loyalty out of the pack - luckily we have all 4 dealerships locally to me. For my needs the L1 was simply too small, the L2 wpuld have been manageable but the L3 gave a notably better load space. Fortunately I ended up finding an L3 within a reasonable distance that ticked all the boxes. It had a great spec. Although no satnav, rear camera or heated seats in mine unfortunately - but still, Carplay/Android Auto and MirrorLink so easily overcome. Oddly, despite solid read doors and a full bulkhead, they still fitted a rear view mirror (for those lady van drivers who need to check their makeup before making a delivery maybe??), oh well at least it makes a perfect mount for a clip on rear camera monitor which I have on order as well as a nice little replacement high-level brake light with integrated rear camera (whole lot was only about £70 from on of those well known Chinese online stores). Anyway, not that it makes the slightest difference, but mine has the Peugeot badge on the bonnet. On a 19 plate, with 100k miles, it was a cheap van and absolutely fits the bill perfectly. Its comfortable to drive (I'm 6'2 and built for comfort not for agility 😉). Whilst it initially feels a little tight jumping in, once the seat and wheel are adjusted it feels comfortable and quite roomy for a smaller cab van. All the controls are easy to reach and feel natural to use. The drive, even empty, it very good with road noise at a respectable level even at motorway speeds with a roof rack and pipe tube fitted! If you didn't want to retain the bulkhead then the drivers seat would have a little more travel and some more recline, but not huge amounts. The 3 seat cab is typical of this size of van - really comfy as a 2 seater, but still driveable and practical as a 3 seater (just dont try and fit 3 rugby players across the front - unless they are very close friends and dont mine a little closeness! Electric Windows and A/C on the professional spec make it a nice place to be. The steering is very light but still feels connected to the road with reasonable feedback. Brakes are good. Mine is the slightly more modest 2.0 120bhp diesel which pulls really well even fully loaded. I wasn't such a fan of the 1.6 diesel on a test of another model, and ive also read that the reliability of that model engine isn't as good as the 2.0 hence I went for the bigger one. However, even in the 2.0 I still average 40mpg over a mix of local abd Motorway and mixed loads from nothing to close on weight capacity. Overall opinion is that I would both recommend the model and buy the same again.
its a great little car every thing works, its great value for money and has no gimmicks, great car to drive . everything in the right place. and a car like this stands on its own,
Clear touch controls for phone, radio etc. Start/stop function and 6 speed gears makes for economic driving.
Solid, robust, spacious and thoroughly meets expectations. Not my first pick-up but certainly a comfortable and smooth drive.
I LOVE the Fiat 500, Im on my fourth, soon to be 5th but the seats in the Dolcevita are AWFUL, I just cant get comfortable in them at all so will have to go for a 1.0 or Lounge again.
