Ford C-Max (2011-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fun to drive for an MPV | Pre-facelift cars feel a bit cheap inside |
| Practical and roomy cabin | Models with an auto gearbox have worse fuel economy |
| Grand C-Max has room for seven and sliding doors | Not as many driver aids as some more modern MPVs |
Quick Summary
The Ford C-Max (2011-2019) is a second-generation compact MPV based on the Ford Focus, offering more interior space without a significantly larger footprint. With sharper looks than its predecessor, it seats five in standard form or seven as the Grand C-Max. It's known for being fun to drive and features a range of strong engines, with a subtle facelift in 2015 bringing exterior and interior improvements, including enhanced infotainment. While rivals like the Renault Scenic and Citroen C4 Picasso might offer more distinctive styling or flexibility, the C-Max stands out for its robustness, reliability, and engaging driving experience.
Practicality is a strong suit, with ample interior space, a 471-litre boot, and sliding/folding rear seats, though only two ISOFIX points. On the road, it delivers a comfortable yet enjoyable ride with sharp steering and nimble handling. Engine options include efficient 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrols and 1.5-litre TDCi diesels, with later engines offering improved economy. Trim levels range from Zetec to Titanium X, with the Titanium offering a good balance of features. While early infotainment can be fiddly, later models with SYNC3 are much improved. Running costs are generally low, with efficient engines and reasonable servicing, making it an excellent used car choice for families or those needing versatile transport.
Best for: Families needing a practical and roomy MPV, drivers who value an engaging and fun driving experience, and those looking for a robust and reliable used family car.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising three individual rear seats with ISOFIX, those who prefer the styling of some French rivals, or those seeking cutting-edge driver aids found in more modern MPVs.

4.7 Overall rating
(23 reviews)My second For Max. Very smooth driving, economical, big boot capacity and ample legroom in the back. This version does not have electric retractable mirrors, which is disappointing, but has cruise control and climate. So you win some. Cant go into clean air zone.
My second c-max great features and good value would buy again
I liked the C Max because it had the space inside the car and boot that I was looking for. It also had all the features I was looking for like air con, pas and lumbar support. Its relatively cheap to run easy on the gas and a nice comfortable drive. I have two small dogs as apposed to two small children so its just the right size which ever way your looking for that kind of size car. The boot is great plenty of room for a pushchair or wheelchair. Plus all the other bits and bobs we need to have with us. The particular model I bought is great. I would compare it to a Citreon Xsara Picasso very simila .
Lacks front and rear sensors - or these are not listed in the advertising, and it lacks electric folding wing-mirrors
Have owned one before and it offers good luggage area. The folded down seating also offers a vast space for trips to the tip with garden and general rubbish. The seating is easy to use. The range of extras available gives you a great way to customise your vehicle.
