Ford Capri (2024-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Enjoyable to drive	Some ergonomic quirks
Massively spacious	Heat pump costs extra
Generous standard equipment	No vehicle-to-load functionality

Quick Summary

The Ford Capri (2024-present) is a stylish electric SUV that sits between the Ford Explorer and Ford Mustang Mach-E. Sharing the same platform, batteries and infotainment as the Explorer, the Capri offers a sleeker coupe-SUV design with even more boot space at 567 litres. It's available with 52-, 77- or 79kWh batteries, providing WLTP ranges between 250 and 389 miles for single-motor rear-wheel-drive models, or 367 miles for the all-wheel-drive variant. The Capri competes with rivals including the Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Renault Scenic E-Tech, Peugeot E-3008 and Skoda Enyaq Coupe.

This is a genuinely practical family electric SUV with an impressive driving experience. It's peachy to drive with keen steering and well-controlled body movement, whilst the dual-motor AWD model achieves a hot hatch-rivalling 0-62mph time of 5.3 seconds. The cabin is well-appointed with a large portrait touchscreen, excellent passenger space and a flat rear floor. Running costs are competitive at roughly 6p per mile from a home wallbox, or just 2p per mile using cheaper overnight tariffs. However, the Capri isn't cheap, starting around £42,000, and some may find the ride too firm for a family car. The heat pump is an expensive option, and there's no vehicle-to-load functionality.

Best for: Buyers seeking a spacious, well-equipped electric family SUV with engaging driving dynamics and generous standard kit, particularly those with access to home charging.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising maximum ride comfort, seeking the most affordable electric SUV option, or requiring vehicle-to-load technology as standard.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Capri if: You want a spacious, well-equipped electric family SUV with engaging driving dynamics and generous standard kit, particularly with access to home charging.

Consider alternatives if: You're prioritising maximum ride comfort, seeking the most affordable electric SUV option, or require vehicle-to-load technology as standard.

Competitive Position: The Ford Capri is a strong all-rounder in the electric SUV market, offering excellent practicality, enjoyable driving dynamics and generous standard equipment. Whilst the Kia EV6 and Skoda Enyaq Coupe score higher with expert reviewers and offer slightly better value, the Capri remains competitive with its spacious interior and engaging drive. The Tesla Model Y is pricier but offers different appeal. For buyers seeking a well-rounded electric family SUV with a good balance of performance, space and equipment, the Capri is a fine choice, particularly if you can secure a good deal.
