The Ford Fiesta dominated the UK’s sales charts for much of its 47-year run. As with most of Ford’s models, it was often the best car to drive in its class, and its immense popularity (it was selling more than 130,000 units in the mid-2010s) and cheap and cheerful nature meant it was the car in which many Brits learned to drive. It spanned seven generations and, while it always hung onto those aforementioned values, it morphed from a very basic small car into a refined and technologically advanced supermini in its final 2017-2023 guise. Many rivals came and went in the Fiesta’s time, but the Renault Clio and the Volkswagen Polo were two of its longest standing competitors.
