overall
The Ford Mustang is a charismatic used coupe or convertible that delivers exactly what buyers expect from an American muscle car: bold styling, rear-wheel drive, strong value and, in GT form, a fabulous 5.0-litre V8 soundtrack. It isn’t as sharp or sophisticated as most European sports cars, but it has more than enough presence and personality to make up for that.
The rear seats are cramped, running costs are high and four-cylinder EcoBoost models lack some of the character that makes the Mustang special. But choose a well-kept V8 GT, Bullitt or Mach 1 and the sixth-generation Mustang delivers a fabulously old-school take on the performance car recipe.
