The second-generation of Hyundai Kona looks to build on the strengths of the original by still providing eye-catching looks, solid build quality, generous equipment and good value for money, and adding in better practicality, slicker infotainment and more technology on top. It’s largely successful, although there are a few areas where the Kona still trails its myriad rivals.

We had a Hyundai ix35 for 8 years of faultless and pleasurable driving and would not have changed it just yet had it not been a diesel engine and subject to ULEZ £12.50 per day charges. We looked at and tested various replacement models and it came down to the Kona vs a Ford Kuga. We opted for the Kona because of the very pleasing driving experience, the many whistles and bells the Ultimate variant offers and the knowledge that we had full support service wise wherever we were. All in all, a really enjoyable SUV which handles superbly well and is easy to drive and park in town or country.
