Hyundai Santa Fe Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Lots of standard equipment	Disappointingly low towing limit
Nicely trimmed interior	Cabin storage could be cleverer
Enormous space and versatility	Limited electric range for plug-in hybrid

Quick Summary

The Hyundai Santa Fe is a stylish and highly practical large seven-seat SUV that combines bold, boxy design with impressive versatility. Available as a full hybrid or plug-in hybrid with a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, it offers genuine all-wheel-drive capability and a commanding driving position. The middle row slides and reclines with 60:40 split functionality, whilst the third row provides reasonable comfort for shorter journeys. With 621–628 litres of boot space in five-seat mode and up to 1,949 litres with seats folded, it's genuinely spacious for families. The cabin feels classy and robust, featuring a curved touchscreen, excellent cubbies, and a double glovebox, with multiple Isofix points across all rows.

The Santa Fe drives with surprising refinement and composure, with smooth powertrain transitions and self-levelling suspension that keeps things cushy without feeling soft. The hybrid delivers 236bhp with 0–62mph in 9.0–9.2 seconds, whilst the plug-in hybrid offers 284bhp and 8.0-second acceleration. All models feature semi-autonomous driver assistance systems, heated front seats, wireless phone charging, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay. Running costs are reasonable for a seven-seater of this calibre, with Hyundai servicing plans starting from £11 per month. However, early models suffer from disappointingly low towing capacities, though this was improved from September 2025 onwards.

Best for: Families seeking a spacious, well-equipped seven-seat SUV with excellent practicality, reliability, and modern technology, particularly those wanting hybrid efficiency without premium pricing.

Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising maximum towing capacity, those needing extensive cabin storage solutions, or those seeking the longest electric range from a plug-in hybrid.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Santa Fe if: You're seeking a spacious, well-equipped seven-seat SUV with excellent practicality, reliability, and modern technology, particularly if you want hybrid efficiency without premium pricing.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise maximum towing capacity, need extensive cabin storage solutions, or seek the longest electric range from a plug-in hybrid.

Competitive Position: The Hyundai Santa Fe is a compelling choice in the seven-seat SUV market, matching the Kia Sorento for expert rating whilst offering excellent value and versatility. Its generous standard equipment, nicely trimmed interior, and enormous space make it highly practical for families. Whilst the Kia Sorento edges ahead on overall CarGurus rating and value score, the Santa Fe remains a truly brilliant and lovable seven-seater. It outperforms the Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008 on expert rating, offering superior refinement, technology, and all-wheel-drive capability. For those wanting something useful and rugged without breaking the bank, the Santa Fe should be at the top of your list.
