Hyundai Santa Fe Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Lots of standard equipment	Disappointingly low towing limit
Nicely trimmed interior	Cabin storage could be cleverer
Enormous space and versatility	Limited electric range for plug-in hybrid

Quick Summary

The Hyundai Santa Fe is a stylish and highly practical large seven-seat SUV that combines bold, contemporary design with impressive versatility. Available as a full hybrid or plug-in hybrid with a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, it offers flexible powertrain options to suit different driving needs. The Santa Fe features a commanding driving position, a well-appointed interior with up to 1,949 litres of boot space with all seats folded, and comprehensive standard equipment across all trim levels. Its self-levelling suspension delivers a comfortable, refined ride whilst remaining surprisingly engaging on twisty roads.

The Santa Fe excels in practicality, with sliding and reclining middle-row seats, easy access to the third row, and multiple Isofix points for families with young children. Running costs are reasonable for a vehicle of this size and capability, with servicing plans starting from £11 per month. Whilst the towing capacity was initially disappointing on earlier models, post-September 2025 cars offer significantly improved figures. The Santa Fe represents excellent value for those seeking a spacious, reliable, and well-equipped family SUV without premium badge pricing.

Best for: Families needing seven seats and maximum versatility, those seeking a refined and comfortable driving experience, and buyers wanting substantial standard equipment without premium costs.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising maximum towing capacity, buyers requiring extensive charging cable storage solutions, or those seeking a compact SUV.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Santa Fe if: You need a spacious seven-seat SUV with excellent practicality, comprehensive standard equipment, and a refined driving experience without premium pricing.

Consider alternatives if: You require maximum towing capacity, need extensive charging cable storage, or prefer a more compact SUV for easier manoeuvrability.

Competitive Position: The Hyundai Santa Fe is a standout choice in the large seven-seat SUV market, matching the Kia Sorento for expert rating whilst offering distinctive styling and a well-appointed interior. It delivers superior practicality and versatility compared to the Peugeot 5008 and Skoda Kodiaq, with more generous space and better standard equipment. Whilst user ratings favour its rivals slightly, the Santa Fe's combination of style, comfort, reliability, and value makes it a compelling proposition for families seeking a capable, well-rounded family SUV that doesn't compromise on quality or features.
