Good light worker, efficient, affordable, good value. Has some go in the higher revs should it be needed.

I know that it is known as quite boxy especially inside but the 2010 version rather than the 2009 seemed well thought through and it looked great for its value on the outside. Such a reliable vehicle but I needed to have taken a bit more care over the bumps etc.

A very good alternative to Fiesta or Polo and a lot cheaper than the Volkswagon.

Hyundai i20 Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Well equipped, even if you choose the entry-level car | Patchy standard of interior finish |
| Easy-to-use touchscreen infotainment | Not the cheapest to buy |
| Solid reliability and a long warranty | Fuel economy is unspectacular |
Quick Summary
The Hyundai i20 is a sensible, practical small car that has evolved into a genuinely compelling proposition. This latest generation offers impressive equipment levels across the range, with even the entry-level model featuring a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that ranks among the best in its class. The five-door layout provides plenty of head and legroom for rear passengers, whilst the 352-litre boot matches the VW Polo for practicality. With a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 89-99bhp, the i20 delivers willing performance and achieves around 45mpg in real-world driving, though fuel economy is not class-leading.
Recent pricing adjustments have transformed the i20's value proposition, making it now competitive with rivals like the Renault Clio and Vauxhall Corsa when comparing equivalent specifications. The standout feature is undoubtedly the touchscreen infotainment system, which offers superior functionality and design compared to most competitors. Backed by a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and a reputation for solid reliability, the i20 represents a grown-up, reassuring choice for buyers seeking a well-equipped supermini. Ride comfort and handling are competent, though not class-leading, and the car excels on motorway journeys despite its modest size.
Best for: Buyers seeking a well-equipped, reliable supermini with excellent infotainment, those valuing warranty coverage and peace of mind, and drivers wanting a spacious, comfortable small car for families or commuters.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising the finest interior quality, the lowest purchase price, or the best fuel economy in the supermini class, or drivers seeking the sharpest handling dynamics.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai i20 | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 35.5% | 4.4/5 |
| Renault Clio | 3/5 | 4.7/5 | 37.4% | 4.3/5 |
| Volkswagen Polo | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 34.5% | 4.5/5 |
| Toyota Yaris | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 32.9% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the i20 if: You seek a well-equipped, reliable supermini with excellent infotainment, value warranty coverage and peace of mind, or want a spacious, comfortable small car for families or commuters.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise the finest interior quality, the lowest purchase price, the best fuel economy, or the sharpest handling dynamics in the supermini class.
Competitive Position: The Hyundai i20 is a strong contender in the supermini market, offering exceptional equipment levels and a class-leading infotainment system that sets it apart from rivals. Whilst the VW Polo edges ahead on interior quality and the Toyota Yaris and Renault Clio offer better fuel economy, the i20's comprehensive warranty, solid reliability, and generous standard specification make it excellent value for money. It represents a mature, reassuring choice for buyers prioritising practicality, equipment, and peace of mind over premium badge appeal or driving thrills.
