Jaguar I-Pace (2018-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| One of the very best EVs to drive | Disappointing real-world range |
| Combines speed with refinement | Doesn't charge as quickly as some rivals |
| Rock-bottom tax bills for company drivers | Firm ride on biggest wheels |
Quick Summary
The Jaguar I-Pace (2018-present) is the British brand's pioneering pure electric vehicle, launched in 2018. The sole EV400 model offers 396bhp and permanent four-wheel drive, targeting premium electric SUVs like the Audi E-tron and Mercedes EQC. While its official WLTP range is 292 miles, real-world driving typically yields around 240 miles in warm conditions and as low as 180 miles on motorways or in cold weather. Charging takes about 14 hours from a 7kW home wall box, with rapid charging adding 100 miles in 45-60 minutes at 50kW, or 30 minutes at 100kW.
The I-Pace's standout feature is its driving dynamics, offering a genuinely thrilling and refined experience that sets it apart from many rivals, combining savage acceleration (0-62mph in 4.8s) with comfort. Practicality is good for a family, with comfortable rear seating for two adults and a 577-litre boot, though some competitors offer more rear passenger space. Available in S, SE, and HSE trims, with SE being the recommended sweet spot. Running costs are competitive, with significant savings on fuel, tax, and London's congestion charge, despite initially higher servicing costs and depreciation that holds well.
Best for: Drivers prioritising exceptional driving dynamics and a sporty EV experience, those seeking luxury, refinement, and strong performance, and buyers looking for low running costs related to fuel and tax.
Not ideal for: Buyers who need the absolute longest real-world range or the fastest charging speeds available, those prioritising maximum rear passenger space, or drivers sensitive to a potentially firm ride on larger wheels without optional air suspension.

The Verdict
You should buy the I-Pace if: You prioritise exceptional driving dynamics, luxury, and a refined sporty electric SUV experience, alongside the benefits of low electric running costs (tax, fuel, city charges).
Consider alternatives if: You require class-leading real-world range, the fastest charging infrastructure, or maximum rear passenger space, or prefer a softer ride without specific options.
Competitive Position: The Jaguar I-Pace stands out as a highly desirable electric sports-SUV, renowned for its engaging driving experience, strong performance, and luxurious cabin. While some rivals may offer superior real-world range or faster charging capabilities, and a few boast more generous rear passenger space, the I-Pace’s blend of dynamic prowess, refinement, and significant running cost savings makes it a compelling choice for those seeking an electric car that is truly thrilling to drive.
Jaguar I-Pace Review
*The Overall CarGurus rating: that informs these recommendations is based on CarGurus' proprietary market data from February 2026, CarGurus expert reviews, and CarGurus user reviews.
4.8 Overall rating
(7 reviews)Expensive car but an enjoyable one. Nice to drive, comfortable in the front but perhaps a bit lacking in legroom for the rear seat passengers. Considering the cost, the HSE model could come with more fittings as standard.
Awesome car. The prices of used need to drop a bit to make them more affordable.
Only had it for a day and so far so good. Looks impressive and great performance
I took a long time to decide on which EV car to buy and test drove quite a few including the Tesla. It came down to the i-pace as its a fantastic car to own and drive And its electric. Had a Ford Mach-E on order for nearly a year but somehow it just had to be the Jag.
Its a lovely car. Insurance is an issue being £500 plus more expensive than a diesel, wiping out the fuel saving. A power tailgate and glass roof are required items on the shopping list.
