Jaguar XE (2015-2024) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Brilliant handling | Electrical issues blight the Jag's reliability record |
| Sleek and sporting looks | Tight rear-seat space |
| Excellent eight-speed automatic gearbox | Small boot |
Quick Summary
The Jaguar XE (2015-2024) marked Jaguar's entry into the compact executive saloon market, aiming to compete with German rivals like the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4. It boasts a stylish design and brilliant handling, underpinned by an innovative aluminium shell. While it offers a refined and comfortable driving experience, it prioritises aesthetics and dynamics over outright practicality, evident in its sleeker profile.
Featuring Jaguar’s Ingenium diesel and petrol engines, the XE balances power, economy, and efficiency, though early diesels can be gruffer. Standard equipment is generous, even on entry-level trims, including leather seats and a 10-inch touchscreen, with later models benefiting from an updated infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Running costs are competitive, but early models faced some electronic reliability issues, making a thorough check of recall work essential for used buyers.
Best for: Drivers who value engaging handling, sleek aesthetics, long-distance comfort, and a well-equipped interior, seeking a distinctive alternative to German executive saloons.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising maximum rear-seat space, a large boot (especially compared to rivals), or those who demand absolute electronic reliability without checking for recall work.

The Verdict
You should buy the XE if: You're seeking a stylish, engaging, and comfortable executive saloon that offers a refreshing alternative to its German rivals, especially if driving dynamics are a priority.
Consider alternatives if: You need maximum rear passenger space, a larger boot, or are concerned about potential early model electrical issues.
Competitive Position: The Jaguar XE (2015-2024) is a strong contender in the compact executive saloon segment, offering a compelling blend of style, handling prowess, and generous standard equipment. While it may concede some practicality and early reliability to rivals like the BMW 3 Series or Audi A4, its distinctive character, refined driving experience, and competitive running costs make it an attractive choice for those looking for a sophisticated, driver-focused alternative.

4.4 Overall rating
(25 reviews)Lovely car too drive and classy with just the right amount too power to give you the edge lovely sounding engine, steering is responsive whilst firm and sticks too cornering like tar all round great drive
The car was everything....and more....that I expected. Very pleased indeed!
Fantastic looking car with excellent handling characteristics and a superb petrol engine. It feels noticeably more special than its German rivals on the road, and if got with the InControl Pro 10 inch touch screen (and its assorted connectivity feature set) it can give them a run for their money in electronic tech. This year is towards the end of the model line for the gear selector rising out of the centre console once the engine is started, a fantastic feature that adds nothing to driving but contributes brilliantly to the sheer theatricality of the car.
It was a very fine looking, well specced example and seemed to be in excellent condition. The main reason for testing it was to see if it deserved its reputation for a smooth ride and general refinement. Whilst not actually uncomfortable, I was surprised at how stiff and unsettled the ride was, and how quickly I noticed the level of road noise. It was specified as a SPORT model, but I had been told by a dealer that that was about trim, and not any especially firmer suspension than a normal Jag XE . So overall very nice, but nowhere near as specially refined as I had been led to believe.
Ride and handling best in class ,performance more than adequate for normal road driving
