The Jaguar XE is probably the best handling car I've driven so far. The styling of the face-lift 2019 version is one of the best looking cars in it's class. Would have loved the camera in the rearview mirror, amazing feature. Would compare this car to a BMW 3, Merc C class. The more I drive this car the more I love it!!

Fantastic looking car with excellent handling characteristics and a superb petrol engine. It feels noticeably more special than its German rivals on the road, and if got with the InControl Pro 10 inch touch screen (and its assorted connectivity feature set) it can give them a run for their money in electronic tech. This year is towards the end of the model line for the gear selector rising out of the centre console once the engine is started, a fantastic feature that adds nothing to driving but contributes brilliantly to the sheer theatricality of the car.

Jaguar XE (2015-2024) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Brilliant handling | Electrical issues blight the Jag's reliability record |
| Sleek and sporting looks | Tight rear-seat space |
| Excellent eight-speed automatic gearbox | Small boot |
Quick Summary
The Jaguar XE (2015-2024) is Jaguar's entry into the competitive compact executive saloon market, challenging the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Constructed from bonded and riveted aluminium components, the XE boasts a stylish, sporty design and handles brilliantly. Its Ingenium turbodiesel and petrol engines are powerful and economical, whilst the eight-speed automatic gearbox is excellent. Standard equipment is generous, with even the entry-level S trim featuring leather seats, dual-zone climate control, and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. A 2019 update brought an improved infotainment system with satellite navigation, DAB radio, and smartphone connectivity.
However, the XE prioritises style over practicality, with a sloping roofline that robs rear passengers of headroom and a transmission tunnel that eats into middle-seat legroom. The 410-litre boot is the smallest in its class, and there is no estate option. Early models suffered from electrical issues affecting reliability, so it is essential to verify that all recall work has been completed before purchase. Despite these concerns, most owners report satisfaction with their purchase. The XE offers a refreshing alternative to German rivals, delivering an exciting yet comfortable driving experience with excellent refinement for long-distance trips.
Best for: Drivers prioritising handling and style, those seeking a sporty yet comfortable compact executive saloon, and buyers wanting a refreshing alternative to German manufacturers.
Not ideal for: Those requiring spacious rear seating, large boot capacity, or maximum reliability without potential electrical issues.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaguar XE | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 37.0% | 4.2/5 |

| Mercedes-Benz C-Class | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 36.8% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the XE if: You prioritise handling and style, seek a sporty yet comfortable compact executive saloon, or want a refreshing alternative to German manufacturers.
Consider alternatives if: You require spacious rear seating, large boot capacity, or maximum reliability without potential electrical issues.
Competitive Position: The Jaguar XE is a compelling alternative in the compact executive saloon segment, offering brilliant handling and sleek styling that rivals the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Whilst the Audi A4 edges ahead with superior user ratings and better value deals, the XE delivers an exciting driving experience with excellent refinement. However, potential buyers must be aware of the XE's electrical reliability issues and practical limitations, including tight rear-seat space and a small boot. For those willing to verify recall completion and accept these trade-offs, the XE provides an engaging and stylish compact executive option at a competitive price point.
