Customers say
The Jaguar XJ Series is celebrated for its luxurious interior, unique design, and impressive performance across model years. Owners consistently appreciate the quality and elegance that the vehicle offers, making it a standout option in the luxury car market. However, some drivers mention concerns over fuel economy and reliability, particularly with the diesel engine in older models. Overall, the XJ Series leaves a strong impression as a stylish and comfortable choice for those seeking a premium driving experience, although practical aspects like economy may not meet everyone's needs.

Yes it's good value for money i personally think 2009 what a good year for this jaguar model stand back and look at the lines on the jaguar the way it looks the way the rear quarter slops down the the rear of jaguar a beautiful car if you see this model and it's in great condition but it because once you've owned an xj jaguar you won't drive nothing else that's just my opinion but if you can afford it go for the xjr the sound they make is unbelievable

Jaguar XJ (2010-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Sporty to drive for a luxury saloon | Compromised ride comfort |
| XJR is extremely fast | Low-quality finish in some parts of the cabin |
| Lots of luxury kit | Lacklustre infotainment system |
Quick Summary
The Jaguar XJ (2010-2019), known as the X351, is a dramatically redesigned luxury saloon that combines sleek styling with engaging driving dynamics. This fourth-generation variant features a low roofline, aggressive styling, and a panoramic glass roof, with engine options ranging from a frugal 3.0-litre diesel V6 to a supercharged 5.0-litre petrol V8. The cabin exudes luxury with fine veneers, leathers, and metal finishes, offering far more character than rivals such as the BMW 7 Series. The long wheelbase model provides an extra 120mm of rear legroom, whilst the 520-litre boot exceeds those of the Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series.
The XJ's slick steering and composed chassis make it a treat to drive, far more engaging than rival luxury saloons, though the penalty is a slightly compromised ride compared to a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The entry-level 3.0-litre diesel delivers 275hp and 443lb ft of torque, whilst the 510hp supercharged V8 accelerates from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds. A supercharged 3.0-litre V6 arrived in 2012, followed by an eight-speed automatic transmission in 2013 and the high-performance XJR. Running costs are manageable, with diesel variants achieving over 35mpg and service plans available from around £480 annually. Even the V8s can nudge 30mpg on longer, sedate cruises.
Best for: Buyers seeking a sporty luxury saloon with character, those wanting engaging driving dynamics with comfort and class, and those considering alternatives to a Porsche Panamera.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising ultimate comfort (Mercedes-Benz S-Class is superior), buyers requiring maximum rear headroom, or those wanting a flawless infotainment system and cabin finish.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaguar XJ | 3/5 | 4.4/5 | 23.1% | 4.0/5 |
| BMW 7 Series | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 30.6% | 4.2/5 |
| Audi A8 | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 31.9% | 4.2/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz S-Class | 4/5 | 4.9/5 | 27.7% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the XJ if: You're seeking a sporty luxury saloon with character, wanting engaging driving dynamics combined with comfort and class, or considering alternatives to a Porsche Panamera.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise ultimate comfort (Mercedes-Benz S-Class is superior), require maximum rear headroom, or want a flawless infotainment system and cabin finish.
Competitive Position: The Jaguar XJ (2010-2019) is an easy-to-recommend luxury saloon that stands out for its engaging driving dynamics and evocative character. Whilst rivals such as the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 score higher on expert ratings and offer more value deals, the XJ's sporty handling and distinctive styling make it a compelling alternative. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class remains superior for ultimate comfort, but the XJ offers more driving involvement. For buyers seeking a luxury saloon that's genuinely fun to drive, the XJ represents an excellent choice, particularly in XJR form.
