Kia Proceed (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Handsome estate-meets-coupe looks | Bland driving experience |
| Generous seven-year warranty | Limited engine line-up |
| Lots of standard kit | A bit pricey as a new car |
Quick Summary
The Kia Proceed (2019-present) is a stylish shooting brake that resurrects a classic nameplate in a modern, estate-car form. Combining coupe-like aesthetics with practical family-car functionality, it offers 594 litres of boot space (expanding to 1,465 litres with rear seats folded) and comfortable accommodation for five. The sloping roofline delivers a premium appearance, though it does compromise rear visibility—a reversing camera comes as standard. With a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and heated seats across the range, the Proceed is generously equipped and appeals to those seeking something different from the sea of SUVs.
Currently available with 1.5-litre (158bhp) and 1.6-litre (201bhp) petrol engines, the Proceed delivers smooth, unfussed progress rather than thrilling performance. The 1.5-litre pairs well with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, whilst the more powerful GT variant manages 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds but lacks the sharp handling you might expect. Fuel economy ranges from 39.3mpg (GT models) to 48.7mpg (entry-level), with the now-discontinued 1.6-litre diesel achieving up to 56.5mpg. The Proceed rides well and offers poise comparable to more expensive rivals, though road noise at motorway speeds is noticeable. As a used car, it represents a niche choice for those prioritising style and equipment over driving dynamics.
Best for: Buyers seeking a distinctive, well-equipped estate car with striking looks, those wanting something different from mainstream family cars, and drivers who value comfort and technology over sharp handling.
Not ideal for: Enthusiasts seeking engaging driving dynamics, those prioritising maximum boot space, or buyers wanting a premium badge (Mercedes-Benz CLA) or superior build quality (Volkswagen Golf).
Comparison vs Key Rivals

| Kia Proceed | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 36.4% | 4.2/5 |

| Volkswagen Golf Estate | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 31.9% | 4.4/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Proceed if: You want a distinctive, well-equipped estate car with striking looks, seek something different from mainstream family cars, and value comfort and technology over driving dynamics.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engaging driving dynamics, maximum boot space, a premium badge, or superior German build quality and interior finish.
Competitive Position: The Kia Proceed (2019-present) is a stylish niche player in the shooting brake segment, offering excellent value and generous equipment. Whilst it doesn't match the Ford Focus Estate for driving enjoyment or the Volkswagen Golf Estate for build quality and prestige, the Proceed's distinctive design, comprehensive warranty, and strong user ratings make it an appealing choice for those seeking something different. However, at around £30,000 new, it sits in premium territory where the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake offers greater brand cachet for only £3,000 more. As a used car, the Proceed represents a compelling option for style-conscious buyers who prioritise aesthetics and equipment over sharp handling.

5 Overall rating
(2 reviews)Packs a lot of bang for the buck. Theres a lot of stigma still associated to the Kia brand, but I liken this to how noone would touch Japenese motorbikes back in the day, but now theyve taken over and market leaders.
Very reliable cars & excellent comfort. A beautiful car to drive.
