Kia Proceed (2019-2024) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Handsome estate-meets-coupe looks	Bland driving experience
Generous seven-year warranty	Limited engine line-up
Lots of standard kit	A bit pricey as a new car

Quick Summary

The Kia Proceed (2019-2024) is a stylish shooting brake that combines the practicality of an estate car with the aesthetic appeal of a coupe. Despite its rakish roofline, it offers a surprisingly spacious 594-litre boot, comparable to traditional estates like the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports and larger than the Ford Focus Estate. The cabin is generously equipped with modern technology, including an eight-inch touchscreen (upgraded to 10.25-inch from 2021), LED lighting, reversing camera, heated seats, and adaptive cruise control on higher trims. Rear headroom is adequate for six-foot passengers, though three across the rear bench is tight.

The Proceed is powered by turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, with the 1.5-litre petrol (158bhp from 2021) offering the best balance of performance and efficiency. The 1.6-litre diesel achieves 45-50mpg, whilst petrol variants manage 30-40mpg depending on specification. Whilst the GT model's 201bhp doesn't deliver the thrilling drive its styling suggests, the Proceed rides well with good poise and agility. All models benefit from Kia's seven-year warranty and low servicing costs, with diesel variants particularly economical for high-mileage drivers. As a used buy, it represents excellent value for those seeking stylish practicality with strong reliability.

Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish alternative to conventional estates, those prioritising reliability and warranty coverage, and drivers wanting generous equipment levels and practicality combined with distinctive looks.

Not ideal for: Enthusiasts seeking an engaging, dynamic driving experience, buyers wanting maximum boot space (traditional estates offer more), or those requiring the finest build quality and interior finish.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Proceed if: You seek a stylish alternative to conventional estates, prioritise reliability and warranty coverage, or want generous equipment levels and practicality combined with distinctive looks.

Consider alternatives if: You're seeking an engaging, dynamic driving experience, require maximum boot space, or prioritise premium build quality and interior finish.

Competitive Position: The Kia Proceed (2019-2024) is a compelling choice in the shooting brake segment, offering distinctive styling, strong reliability, and excellent value. Whilst the Volkswagen Golf Estate provides superior German build quality and the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake offers executive prestige, the Proceed delivers more generous standard equipment and a longer warranty at a more accessible price point. The Ford Focus Estate provides a more engaging drive, but the Proceed's stylish design and practical versatility make it an excellent proposition for buyers wanting something different from the ordinary estate car.
