Kia Proceed (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Handsome estate-meets-coupe looks | Bland driving experience |
| Generous seven-year warranty | Limited engine line-up |
| Lots of standard kit | A bit pricey as a new car |
Quick Summary
The Kia Proceed (2019-present) revives a familiar badge as a stylish shooting brake, blending estate practicality with coupe aesthetics. Offering 594 litres of boot space (expanding to 1,465 litres with seats folded), it surpasses many SUVs and caters to family luggage needs, despite being slightly smaller than its Ceed Sportswagon sibling. Inside, it comfortably accommodates four six-foot passengers, though three across the rear bench is tight, and a standard reversing camera compensates for limited rear visibility caused by the sloping roofline. Available with 1.5-litre (158bhp) or 1.6-litre (201bhp) petrol engines, the Proceed offers unfussed progress, particularly with the 1.5-litre and Kia's dual-clutch automatic gearbox. While the 201bhp GT model is swift, achieving 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds, it doesn't quite deliver the exhilarating hot hatch experience its styling might suggest, and road noise can be noticeable at motorway speeds. The car boasts a generous tech suite, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and numerous driver aids, while running costs are reasonable across the range, with the defunct diesel being the most frugal.
Best for: Drivers seeking a stylish, well-equipped five-door estate that offers ease of ownership, a generous warranty, and a degree of rarity.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising a premium badge, the most engaging driving dynamics, or the ultimate practicality of a traditional, boxier estate car.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kia Proceed | 3/5 | 5/5 | 31.7% | 4.2/5 |

| Volkswagen Golf Estate | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 32.4% | 4.4/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Proceed if: You're seeking a stylish and well-equipped five-door estate car that offers ease of ownership, a generous warranty, and a degree of rarity.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a premium badge, the most engaging driving dynamics, or require the ultimate practicality of a traditional estate car.
Competitive Position: The Kia Proceed (2019-present) holds a unique position in the market as a stylish shooting brake. While it offers good looks, high levels of standard equipment, and Kia's excellent warranty, it's a niche product that doesn't quite match rivals like the Ford Focus Estate for driving enjoyment or a Volkswagen Golf Estate for ultimate practicality and perceived build quality. Its new car price also positions it close to premium alternatives such as the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake, which offers greater brand cachet. However, for those who value distinctive styling and a feature-rich package over outright driving thrills or maximum cargo space, the Proceed is a compelling choice.

5 Overall rating
(2 reviews)Packs a lot of bang for the buck. Theres a lot of stigma still associated to the Kia brand, but I liken this to how noone would touch Japenese motorbikes back in the day, but now theyve taken over and market leaders.
Very reliable cars & excellent comfort. A beautiful car to drive.
