Kia Sportage

It's unusual to think that the Kia Sportage has clocked up three decades on sale, but it really has. The first generation launched in 1993 when Kia was virtually unknown in the UK, and it was more of a rough and ready compact 4x4 than the sophisticated mid-size SUV we know it as today. Tech and refinement grew throughout the generations – launched in 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2022 respectively – and the latest model is a comfortable and very well-equipped car with an excellent infotainment system. Competition has also grown over time, though; these days, it takes on the likes of the Ford Kuga, the Hyundai Tucson, and the Volkswagen Tiguan.

I looked at the Ford Kuga, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai as I prefer an SUV however the Kia Sportage GT-line was everything I wanted. Parking sensors, heated seats (front and back), leather and a spacious boot with a pull cover. Very smooth to drive, quick on the uptake and big enough for my whole family including the dog.

You buy a car for what you need. The kia Sportage fitted most of our requirements. Its spacious, comfortable, economical and good looking. I hope its reliability reputation holds. Just driven to Netherlands and it behaved impeccably. Well done Kia.
