Kia Venga (2009-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Versatile family-friendly cabin | Dull to drive |
| Some of the original seven-year warranty should still cover recent examples | Disappointing fuel economy |
| Generous kit on all models bar the entry-level '1' | More reliability issues than you'd expect of a Kia |
Quick Summary
The Kia Venga (2009-2019) is a unique blend of hatchback and mini-MPV, designed to offer affordability and exceptional practicality. It excels in providing a spacious and versatile cabin, easily accommodating four adults with generous head and legroom. The clever 60:40 split-folding rear bench can slide fore and aft, allowing for flexible passenger or boot space, which can expand to a massive 1,253 litres.
Despite its practicality, the Venga's driving experience and running costs are less impressive. Engines, ranging from 1.4 to 1.6 litres in petrol and diesel, are generally noisy and lack perkiness, with real-world fuel economy often falling short of official figures. The ride can be bumpy, and steering lacks feel, with noticeable body roll in corners. However, standard equipment levels are generous on most trims, and Kia's transferable seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty offers significant peace of mind for used car buyers.
Best for: Drivers prioritising a spacious and versatile cabin, those needing generous standard equipment, and buyers seeking the reassurance of a long, transferable warranty.
Not ideal for: Buyers who value an engaging driving experience, strong engine performance, excellent fuel economy, or premium interior materials.

The Verdict
You should buy the Venga if: You're prioritising a spacious and versatile cabin, need generous standard equipment, or seek the reassurance of a long, transferable warranty.
Consider alternatives if: You value an engaging driving experience, strong engine performance, excellent fuel economy, or premium interior materials.
Competitive Position: The Kia Venga (2009-2019) stands out in the compact MPV segment for its exceptional interior space and versatility, making it a highly practical choice for families. While it offers generous standard equipment and the significant benefit of Kia's transferable seven-year warranty, its driving dynamics and real-world fuel economy are less competitive compared to rivals like the Honda Jazz or Ford B-Max. It serves well for those prioritising utility and reliability over driving excitement or class-leading efficiency.

(18 reviews)Excellent car with perfect drive ability really smooth automatic
Having had 3 different Sportage models from 2011 until 2020 we swapped to a Kona Hybrid which is excellent. However we felt at our time of life we didnt need another brand new car for my wife as I already have an Ioniq 5 as a company car. We looked at various brands for about a month, both at garages and on the internet. You get to build up quiet a good picture of prices and what you get. We found the Venga to be very roomy inside and having had the previous sportages over 9 or so years the layout and controls were familiar. It is a low mileage car in excellent condition and is the top spec Venga 4, so fully loaded. This was important as we felt it would be too much of a gap with what my wife had on her Kona. The Venga has ticked the box as an excellent run around , deceptively roomy and with better driver visibility and a brighter airy cabin with the pan sunroof . It has a reversing camera and sensors so it is a breeze to park. The ride isnt quiet as good as the Kona over rougher roads, but its good enough. Research showed that the Venga although not made anymore is held in high regard by its owners, which after all is what we should be taking into account. Its very well equipped, safe and reliable, easy to drive and park, rides well over most roads and is a fraction of the cost of newer models with less on them.
After 50yrs of driving several cars I found the Kia Venga is the best I've had. It's fabulous in every respect that much so I've just bought another Kia venga 4 isg.
It is a good small mpv. I have diesel which is very economical. I think it is quite different to the competitors and I think Kia made a real error to withdraw it from their range. I will struggle to find a replacement.
I am pleased so far with the recently purchased vehicle. It has a raft of equipment that is good to have (eg heated seats, cruise control, automatic climate control) and good safety credentials. The only issue is the keyless entry system that takes getting used to, especially as the boot unlocks itself when you are in the proximity of the vehicle with the key. I had to go online and access a forum to ensure that this was normal and not a fault with the mechanism! It compares well with the Hyundai ix20 although it has a better suspension setup offset by less extras. The vehicle is spacious, reasonably fuel-efficient, It is quiet, comfortable, and very easy to drive.
