Customers say
The MG HS is well-received by owners for its luxurious feel and spacious interior. Many drivers appreciate the comfort and ample cabin space, making it a pleasant vehicle for both short and long journeys. However, some express disappointment over the absence of certain features, such as front parking sensors on petrol variants, indicating room for improvement in its overall specification.

Brilliant car it’s huge but so easy to drive. I am trying to work my way through the 322 pages of the handbook. It has all the bells and whistles I just have to learn how to use them. I’m really pleased with this car I definitely made the right choice

MG HS (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Amazing value for money | MG has a poor reputation for reliability |
| 75-mile official range for plug-in hybrid model | Underwhelming petrol engine |
| Long warranty | Poor fuel economy in entry-level model |
Quick Summary
The MG HS is a midsize family SUV that represents exceptional value in the market, undercutting rivals like the Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai by several thousand pounds. Starting at just £25,000, it offers a well-rounded package with a spacious 507-litre boot, refined exterior design, and generous interior space. Available with either a petrol engine or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, the HS delivers excellent equipment levels across the range, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster as standard.
The PHEV variant is particularly impressive, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor to produce 307bhp and achieve an electric-only range of up to 75 miles—among the best-in-class. Whilst the petrol engine feels underwhelming and the steering lacks feedback, the HS excels in practicality and comfort, with excellent rear legroom and a well-tuned suspension that absorbs bumps effectively. For budget-conscious buyers seeking a practical family SUV with strong equipment and low running costs, the MG HS offers compelling value, though potential buyers should be aware of MG's mixed reliability reputation.
Best for: Budget-conscious families seeking a spacious, well-equipped SUV; those prioritising value for money; drivers interested in plug-in hybrid efficiency with impressive electric range.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising driving dynamics or engaging handling; those concerned about brand reliability; drivers seeking excellent fuel economy in the petrol model.

The Verdict
You should buy the HS if: You're seeking exceptional value for money, need a spacious and well-equipped family SUV, or are interested in plug-in hybrid efficiency with impressive electric range.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise driving dynamics, are concerned about brand reliability, or require excellent fuel economy in the petrol model.
Competitive Position: The MG HS is a compelling proposition in the family SUV segment, offering outstanding value that undercuts rivals like the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson by thousands of pounds. Whilst the Kia Sportage edges ahead on expert rating and driving engagement, and the Hyundai Tucson scores higher for user satisfaction, the MG HS remains highly competitive on overall rating and value. Its 75-mile plug-in hybrid range is class-leading, and the generous equipment levels across the range make it an attractive choice for budget-conscious families. However, potential buyers should weigh the exceptional value against MG's mixed reliability reputation before making a decision.
