The Mercedes SL has existed in one form another since 1954, and is the company's flagship two-seater luxury sports car. The lineage began with the iconic 300SL Gullwing coupe, which was inspired by the W198 endurance racing car of 1952, and the roadster version followed in 1957. Since then, most versions of the SL have been offered only as roadsters, and we’re now up to the seventh generation of the car, which was released in 2022. Today, it competes with other high-end luxury grand touring convertibles such as the BMW 8 Series, the Bentley Continental and the Lexus LC.
