Mercedes-Benz Vito (2015-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Upmarket image	Electric version is expensive
Comfortable and relaxing to drive	Lacks a high-roof variant
Panel van, crew van, Tourer and eVito versions available	Some rivals offer more load capacity and payload

Quick Summary

The Mercedes-Benz Vito (2015-present) is a flexible, customisable mid-size van that combines premium appeal with practical versatility. This third-generation model offers multiple configurations including a three-seat panel van, six-seat crew van, passenger-carrying Tourer, and the eVito electric option. Available in various wheelbase and body lengths with different weight variants, the Vito delivers competitive load capacity and payload figures, though some rivals offer more space. The 2024 facelift introduced a new MBUX infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, improved trim levels (Pro and Select), and enhanced standard equipment across the range.

The Vito drives well and feels stable and assured on the road, with a calm, competent demeanour. The latest 2.0-litre diesel engines offer 134bhp, 161bhp, and 187bhp outputs, with the most powerful delivering eager performance from low revs. Service intervals stretch to 25,000 miles or two years, and Mercedes-Benz offers transparent pricing and flexible servicing options including maintenance plans. Fuel economy is competitive rather than class-leading, but strong residual values help keep whole-life costs under control. The eVito suits operators with reliable charging access and predictable urban routes, though the diesel option remains more practical for many businesses.

Best for: Businesses seeking a premium mid-size van with upmarket appeal, operators wanting multiple configuration options, and those prioritising comfort and driving refinement alongside practicality.

Not ideal for: Operators requiring maximum load capacity or payload figures, those needing a high-roof variant, or budget-conscious buyers seeking the lowest purchase price in the segment.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Vito if: You seek a premium mid-size van with upmarket appeal, want multiple configuration options, or prioritise comfort and driving refinement alongside practicality.

Consider alternatives if: You require maximum load capacity and payload figures, need a high-roof variant, or are seeking the lowest purchase price in the segment.

Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz Vito is a strong contender in the mid-size van market, offering premium appeal and driving refinement that rivals struggle to match. Whilst the Volkswagen Transporter edges ahead on overall CarGurus rating and value deals, the Vito's upmarket image, comfortable driving experience, and flexible configuration options make it an excellent choice for operators wanting something beyond the purely utilitarian. The Ford Transit Custom and Renault Trafic offer greater practicality and load capacity, but the Vito's premium positioning and strong user satisfaction ratings justify its place as a premium alternative in this segment.
